I’ve never had trouble with cheek slap, but I’ve seen folks beat the hell out of themselves. Usually it’s because after one good pop, they start holding away from the stock. Which of course just makes it worse.

That said, shims can make a gun shoot better for you. My stock Benelli was just ok until I used the included shims to adjust for my long neck. Now it mounts effortlessly.
