    DoD Breaching Rounds

Has anyone used this stuff? Is there any reason these might be "funner" than just a slug?

The DoD breaching round is designed to defeat door locks and hinges. It is fired 4" to 8" from the target. At impact, the metal powder filled projectile cup disintigrates, dissipating its entire energy on the target.
This is a lethal round and is capable of inflicting serious injury or death at ranges out to 100 yards. The powdered metal is contained in a sealed plastic shot cup which holds it together for long distances. Cartridge Material: Plastic Projectile Material: Powdered Metal Slug Projectile Weight: 7/8 OZ. Length: 2 3/4" Use in unchoked or Improved Cylinder shotguns. 1440

A slug is solid when it is fired vs. the DOD round that frags out when you shoot it.
"At impact, the metal powder filled projectile cup disintigrates, dissipating its entire energy on the target."

That's what the difference seems to be. I haven't shot it but I have shot slugs before.

Check out the Box 'O Truth testing on breaching rounds...

Based on this I would probably pick some up...in case I lose the key to one of my locks...yeah, that's the ticket.

They penetrated about 12 inches of water, which would mean approximately 6 inches of flesh, at 15 feet. They are not designed as an anti-personnel round, but I sure wouldn't want to get shot with one. As Tman noted, "That looks like 400 grains of death."
6 inches of flesh at 15 feet, with that much energy being released.... I definitely wouldn't want to get hit with one. It would make one mothering hole.

Would also make it a surgeon's nightmare to clean the wound in surgery.
