Just finished up my Saiga 12 restoration. It was a pretty simple process. I still have a few kinks to iron out with the FCG, but, for a first timer, I'm pretty happy! I apologize for the crappy pics!

Nice Job!
My only concern it the type of maglock you installed. Although technically within the spirit of the law, in my opinion it is too easily removed. If it is EVER removed with the barrel still installed in the receiver, you will have a CA AW.
Unlike the AK, you cannot simply remove the pistol grip to make removing the maglock legal. It can NEVER be removed while in CA.
Sorry, to be a downer, but on the positive side: I am very impressed with your conversion.
ps. you might want to photo shop your serial numbers off of the pics and repost themComment

I agree with you on the maglock.I think any kind of mag lock is somewhat of a grey area in CA. I did have to mod that mag lock quite a bit. One of the screws took the place of the mag release pin. I then drilled the allen head, so, it could not be removed. Then I drilled and tapped a small set screw from the bottom of the receiver into the top of the mag lock. Is it permanent? No, nothing is really permanent, is it? It would be alot of work to remove the mag lock, though. Thanks for your concern, I put alot of thought into the maglock permanence. As far as the parts went, I used a Tromix DIY TG and a Tromix FCG. The FCG has been my only problem. I haven't figured out why the hammer won't reset. More beer and more filing/dremeling is in my future!Comment

Even if one welded the maglock in place, a criminal bent on killing hundreds of thousands of people while robbing a bank or performing a drive by will just cut it off, anyhow.
Guns are guns, and the law is for those that follow them.
-oh yeh, feinstien wrote the pistol laws and made it so that SHE can carry one. id watch who you are voting for, out there, guys.

...if you replaced the mag pin release with the allen head machine screw, then I would say you are SAFE. As you would make it impossible for the magazine to stay attached to the weapon if you remove the mag lock, because that allen screw removed holds the mag release in the gun.
This does not sound right... you pay the extra $20 for the modified Tromix trigger group for the no-fuss drop-in ability... not to still have to use a Dremel on it. If your going to have to use a Dremel, you might as well got the cheaper standard G2 and modified it yourself. That sucks!
