11-87 issues...flame from ejection port and not feeding 2nd round

I have had an 11-87 for 25+ years now and have used it for just about everything except turkey. I'd say it has no more than 10,000 rounds through it, though, but a good chunk of that is duck and goose 3in mags. I was shooting skeet with it at night on a cold night and noticed that flame would occasionally shoot from the ejection port and it also would not want to cycle and feed the 2nd round. The round would eject and the second would leave the tube and load up on the lifter, but it wouldn't feed and the bolt locks open like the gun is empty. This happened with both Estate and Federal Gold Medal 1oz loads.

Is the flame coming from the ejection port normal? I have not done any night shooting with it prior to this and don't remember it ever happening in low light.

What is the likely cause of the cycling issue?

I've been told that this could be pre-mature unlocking from a worn barrel extension and locking block. If so, do I need a new shotgun?

Two separate things. You're seeing the flame because it's night. The other one is probably cleaning related.

      Probably the O-ring.

I would agree. I buy mine from a local hydraulic parts dealer and always specify "Viton" as the material. Viton is a fluoropolymer with a high temperature rating and great resistance to oils and gun cleaning chemicals.

Try a new metal gas piston ring and O-ring. Maybe also twist by hand the appropriate sized drill bit in the gas port and make sure it is not caked up with carbon.
