I used my shotgun with the factory stock back in April for a steel plate shoot as well as some longer range slug shooting. My nose was sore for about 5 days after. Recoil from slugs caused my thumb to keep hitting my nose when I had a good cheek weld. Another shooter had a 590 with the Magpul furniture and let me try his. I liked it and tried to get the ghost grey. With all the crazy going around, everybody was sold out. Well they are finally coming back in stock for their original price what they were going for pre-pandemic.
To make a long story short, I fired off 40 1oz. full power slugs without a problem. The comb is a little higher on the Magpul over the original Mossberg stock changing the felt recoil. With the original stock, I had to lift my head slightly to look down the sights. The view with the Magpul was near perfect. .25" riser might be perfect. The recoil pad was good, but the change in angle might have been what made it work.
I'm a happy with it. I think the Magpul SGA stock is value added. I can say one thing, after playing around with it, the original furniture will not be going back on EVER! They also give you 4 spacers to change the length of pull in .5" increments for up to 2" increase. I used one as it was good while wearing a tee-shirt to wearing my Carhartt.
I liked it so much, one of my 870's is getting the same.
