Tactical stock recommendations for a Mossberg 500

I want to change out my stock and want a tactical stock. I have shopped around and was thinking about getting one of the ATI stocks.

I bought a speedfeed IV-S and I'm happy with it. Better quality than the pistol grip stock ATI in my opinion, and the shorter length of pull helps. It's pricier than the ATI, but worth it if you ask me. You ask someone else and they may say otherwise

If you don't mind going a little pricy, get the Knoxx stock from Blackhawk. You will not regret it. I put one on my Winchester 1300, 3" slugs feel like an AR.

+1 Knoxx (SpecOps or Compstock)

...although you may have an issue or two:

1) since the safety is on the top of the receiver, you may want to use the Compstock as opposed to the SpecOps Stock. My M500 with SpecOps is always in "cruiser mode" (hammer down, empty chamber, ready to rack in shells) with the safety off. I've no children that I know of and my dog hasn't grown opposable thumbs or an unhealthy sense of curiosity...

2) the SpecOps stock will lengthen the distance from the pistol grip to the trigger, only an issue if you have very short fingers....

Mods list: SpecOps Stock with Power Pack, Mesa Tactical top rail, Hogue Handall, Green Fiber Optic Bead.

Definite to do list: change forend, I need one of those "adapters" to put mine on, just too lazy to purchase one...

Possible future mods: surefire forend, but may make my gun too heavy.

BTW, try not to go too crazy and hang tons of stuff off of your shotgun. I started with the Mesa Tactical top rail for a cheap red dot I still have, but found that it became just too much STUFF to manage (i.e. rack gun, turn on red dot, GO!)

Also after a while you may end up with a club that just happens to shoot shotgun shells.

Thanks for all the suggestions yeah I definately dont want to over do the accessories I was considering a rail to put my reflex sights on. I saw the Knoxx stock also it sounds like that might be my birthday gift to me

To me "tactical" doesn't necessarily mean pistol grip. You've got a lot of options on your table that may not look quite as cool, but might actually be better for your particular shotgun model.

As mentioned, since the Mossberg's safety is located on the top of the receiver, putting a pistol grip stock on it nullifies the benefit of the safety's ergonomic position. Also, the slide release button is rear of the trigger, making its location not particularly suitable for a pistol grip.

Not gonna knock anyone for going with the pistol grip, but if I were you I think I'd look into conventional stock designs when dealing with the Mossberg 500. Choate, Hogue and Speedfeed make some excellent stocks in my opinion.

Personally, I love the Knoxx SpecOps stock on my Remington 870, but like people have said, it might raise an issue or two on the 500. You can't beat the recoil suppression if you're going to be firing slugs or 00 buck though.

Hogue 12" LOP

What kind of heatshield is that mounted on yours? Is that a factory Mossberg heatshield or another model? Looks like it's thin enough that it won't obscure a sight bead.
