Skeet - how to start...

start at trap as it is really easy, but you should still shoot some skeet while you are there it is fun.

Precisely. Your shooting mates will guide you. Best way to get better is shoot with people better than you and learn. Skeet and Sporting Clays are a very social endeavors. You can talk between shots and advise will given or ignored. Both skeet and Sporting Clays has had me on the ropes only to receive that golden piece of advise that straightened things out. We like newbies. Don't overthink it.

Trap is a speed trial and you are encouraged to keep to yourself. Then it is over in a flash and you hand over your money.

DoSent mean I won’t shoot trap as well.

Usually a clays facility will require barrel length of 24" or longer for safety. Otherwise trap shooting can be done with a single shell loader, and skeet and Sporting Clays usually is shot with a double loaded shotgun for doubles. You can ask to shoot all singles if desired for skeet or Sporting Clays.

Skeet is good to learn crossing shots, Trap is good to learn outgoing shots, you'll see both in Sporting and 5-Stand.
That said, taking a lesson or two or three is a good way to start. The most important thing about lessons up front is, you will learn a proper stance and mount. You will not develop bad habits that are hard to break later.
I've shot with several of the people that have posted in this thread, all good people that are happy to help. Some of us will be at Moore-N-Moore Sunday to shoot the Bonanza Blast, it's a fun shoot and we usually have an open spot on our squad...Come join us

You can use a pump, semi-auto, sxs or an o/u.
Probably even a single shot.

Most clay shooting ranges have minimum barrel lengths.
I probably wouldn't show up with a short barrel home defense shotgun.

If you go to LA clays, be sure to go online ahead of time and sign the wavier(s) ahead of time. No way to do it there unless you use your smart phone

Am planning on shooting some night clays at Moore and Moore Wednesday night. You are welcome to join us. Just as cheap as trap or skeet and you get a BBQ dinner between 5 and 7pm. They sell ammo as well.

Myself and friends shoot the first 2 weeks of the month at moore/moore shooting sporting clays and the 2nd 2 weeks at L.A clays shooting skeet you are more then welcome to join at either place, just hit me up.

They are scheduled to stop in October, but there have been quite a few showing up. Since some lights are on and more will be turned on soon, there is no certainty how long they may go for. Also Cory was talking about holding a shoot on Friday night possibly. That will draw quite a few.

Moore and Moore said that they will be lighting up the 5 stand for Wed night shooting as well. When the bugs are ironed out Moore and Moore may entertain a seasonal night league with prizes. The last Wed night turnout was 58 shooters with dinners so thy are well on the way to a league.

All the games are fun. Buy a case or two of shells with good hulls for reloading if, when you get into it. I like Remington STS. Enjoy!
