Now that the TC'ing done (please feel free to add more), for the ones who own one of these guns have any of you replaced the stocks, added a Mesa shell holder, magazine extension, or a limbsavers recoil pad? and how well did they match up? thanks

Yes you are but not because you have a Chinese shotgun. I have one too and it's kick a*s. I have not done a thing to it because it's so perfect already. The Chinese sure know how to make great guns. The stock recoil pad is way better then my stock 870's pad and the 982 is way better quality then my 870. If you didn't know any better you would think the 870 was made in China and the 982 was made in the USA. Ok i'm done talking sh*t.
I did put a Remington Supercell recoil pad on my 870 and it is nice, can shoot all day and not feel a thing. Maybe you could try one on your 982 as they are 870 copies and may fit very well.

You will find that this is one bad *** shotgun. I bought one on sale for 199.99 and have added a tube extension from a member here MAX100 and a set of new screws for the Ghost Ring from sd_shooter.

How much is this going for now?

It was pretty easy.

I read something on AR15.com about using a socket (can't remember the size). Once I was able to slide the socket in and out of the tube, I then slide it back in and used a brass punch to smooth it out. I just lightly taped the 2 pressed spots on the outside with the socket installed. You can't even tell.

Many have just drilled these 2 spots out but I liked the other idea.

A socket is something you put on the end of a ratchet to turn nuts and/or bolts.

It seems like he found the largest socket that would slide freely into the mag tube, then used a brass punch on the outside of the tube to raise the dimples. The socket (on the inside of the tube), will act as support for the tube and prevent it from collapsing.

I've never done this, but I know you could also use a Dremel or a round file to smooth out those dimple as well.

Drilling the dimples out is the safest way to go. If you do try the socket methiod be careful because there is a good chance you could damage your mag tube. The mag tube on a 870 and 870 style shotguns is very costly to replace. If you damage it on a 982 you might as well replace the whole shotgun and sale the damage 982 for parts.
