Metal storm is a modern update of old attempts to make black powder rifles rapid fire. Stack one charge on top of the other all the way down the barrel and light them off from the muzzle towards the breech. Instead of using multiple locks to fire them off, they're using electricity.

You reload by (kinda) changing the whole barrel. The guy behind this has been trying to get a military (any military) to field his weapons systems for almost twenty years. AFAIK, none have gone through any kind of testing, only demonstrations.

He's kinda like the Moller Air Car of the defense industry.

Metalstorm claim to fame is they said they can reach rates of fire in the 2,000,000 rounds per minute territory. Reloading is accomplished, as stated previously, by replacing the barrel/cartridge assemblies.
      Luck favors the prepared.

The original battle plan did not survive initial contact with the enemy.
