I haven't tried steel on the 9000. The UCB has it's lovers and haters. Few between.

Did you have shot hanging up between the bar and housing?

I've done bismuth #4 with no issues.

I've done small quantities of ITX, but on the PW 375.

I would probably try some single stage, or turret press, to load the steel shells.

Steel is just too hard.

Don't know if steel shot loading is possible on the other reloaders but it can be done on a Mec 9000

Yes that was a big one and the main reason to deactivate the actuator. The reason, I was using a universal charge bar.

Had the same problem last year with my steel #4 loads. I just need to make some standard charge bars with the rubber insert for these loads and be done with it

Steel wads are very thick, get stuck on the ram tube and pulled back out. They are long, making it harder to place in the MEC, if at all.

Steel shot will not sear or crush like lead when throwing the shot charge...it jams if it has no place to go for a bit more room

Good info on washing the hulls. That would be too much effort for me knowing I already wipe my hulls clean before loading.

Folks, I certainly did not want to say/imply that the Dillon is a bad press. Far from it. Just not my personal preference. As I have sated before. All presses have their quirks. You just have to figure out what works best for you and your budget. Just like Dooder, you can amass presses as you go on your reloading journey.

If you wipe your hulls off with a Wet Rag with some soap on it, you accomplish the Exact Same Thing! It just takes longer if you have a bunch.

I do this myself if I am loading a few hulls for 3 gun that are going to be left behind. My Old Style AA's are getting long in the tooth. Most have been loaded at least 8 times. I have 2500 new style O/F AA's that I am starting to load and they are already clean. After they are fired again they will need cleaning.

That Lachmiller Sizing Depriming tool is a really fast way to do those operations. You do it over a trash can so all your dead primers go in the bucket. Then into the laundry bag and on to the washer. It takes about 30 minutes to run the Washer and then you dump the hulls out on a piece of carpet to dry.

Believe me your loaded rounds look better and they shoot better too. Plus that, your hands don't get dirty when you handle them while boxing and shooting. Something to think about now that we have to wash our hands every 15 minutes to prevent disease transfer. However more people used to be concerned with LEAD than Covid, so you might consider that issue too.
