Big 5 Mossberg or a used one?

Just get it. and replace parts as needed. I have about 2000 rounds threw my Big 5 Mossy 500 with no problems.mmmmm Racing trucks and shooting guns!! -
I love my Mossberg 500. I got the combo package you're looking at. I also got the pistol grip top folding stock, barrel heat shield, ghost ring sights, and shell holder that fits on the stock.
I'm thinking of getting one of the security 8 Mossbergs and making it my home defense gun. Then I'll take the other one and make it my hunting gun, and take off the pistol grip. I also found a 28" barrel with changable chokes.
For the price, I think Mossbergs are well worth it.Custom made Tail Gunner Trailer Hitch for sale.

4000+ rounds through my Big 5- Mossberg 500 - combo 18.5" + 28" VR
No issues with the exception of make sure on the 18" you clean the chamber more often; as the heat build up attracts more plastic slag than the longer barrel.

However, after spending some time on this forum, I've read a lot of complaints about the new forend style and its tendency to break.
My question is: Would it be more cost efficient to buy a used 500 with the old style of action tube and then buy another barrel, or to just by the Big 5 one and spend the extra $50 to get the original part?

I'm a little confused as to what you mean. First you say the forend, and I'm with you, but then you say action tube. What do you mean action tube? From what I understand, on the newer Mossbergs new design features have been implemented to make the action stronger, such as the addition of a second action bar as opposed to simply one.
If you mean simply the oversized forend on the combo model, I might agree that I don't much care for it, but it's an easily replaced part for less than 20 dollars.
Keep in mind that buying barrels can get into price ranges where one whole barrel costs the same as one whole shotgun.Comment

Not sure where you are getting your Mossberg's or... where you are getting your Mossberg barrels... but extra barrels are not very expensive. I have 3 barrels for my primary Mossy 500. And the slug barrel w/scope combo - made all my buddies with their ARs take notice of what a slug gun w/scope could do out to multiple hundred yard shots. :-)

i have a mossy 500, mossy 590, and remmy 870. all are great shotguns. i've bought my 500 combo a while ago. i never had a problem with it. i would get it at big 5 or buy a used one. if a problem comes along, just replace the part and go on with your life.
my favorite is the mossy 590. then the mossy 500 and my least favorite is the remmy 870. the 870 is a great shotgun, but i like the safety placement of the mossy.
i would have no problems buying a used one!!I am offically a gun nut!!!!!Comment
