    Over/under clay shooting choice

    Hello all,
I'm getting back into shooting trap/clays and have about a $1000 budget. I haven't shot clays since 1974...
I've done a lot of research and I'm down to two choices, can anyone help me decide. The two are the Weatherby Orion Sporting, and the CZ Redhead Premier. Please give me your thoughts.
    Thank you and stay well.

Don't know much about the weatherby, But myself and several friends have the C.Z's in several gauges and love them, my premier is in 20 gauge, shoots and fits nice also swings well,

OP, of the two you listed, I'd go with the CZ. I had a different version from CZ, and for the money, it is a good gun. Keep in mind, if you get serious about clay shooting, you will end up wanting a better gun...I did

As for the Stoeger mentioned above, I'd run from one of those. I had a friend who had to have an O/U, so he bought one. Third time out the cocking lever bent and cracked the fore arm. He sent it in for repair, they sent him a new gun(which he had to DROS). Second time out with the new gun, the same thing happened. Sent it in for repair, they sent him a new gun again(more DROS fees). This time he sold it before ever firing 1 shell. He bought a Beretta and never looked back. I don't know if they have gotten any better, but it be difficult to get any worse.

Get a used Athena. Pre 1984 if possible. Beautiful guns and super solid

Get the weatherby. I have shot both and have the weatherby. Weatherby makes 2 models. The “delux” model comes with extended choke tubes, an adjustable stock, and comes ported. The stoger and cz are cheap for a reason and it shows. Yea, you’ll probably see good reviews for the other 2. Mostly from people happy they got something cheap.

Do the people that you shoot with a favor. Don't get anything with a ported barrel.

Get the one that fits you best when shouldered and if equal then which has the nicest wood.

Forget the CZ. They are nice looking guns but they are not made to last. Trust me, I've had two - a semiauto and an O/U.

Get the Weatherby. Or a Franchi.
Or you can look on GunBroker.com or Calguns Marketplace for a gently used Ruger Red Label, a Fausti, Rizzini or Sauer, all excellent quality guns.

Seeing that most of the guys at the range are 65+ and cant hear to begin with...

If you cant handle the noise from a ported shotgun you need better hearing protection...

I have 25 thousand or more rounds thru my C.Z canvasback with a skeet high score of 98 and not one hiccup in all the years shooting it!!

Thank you for your concern about my hearing Mr. Cooper.

Thank you all for your advice. I went with the CZ Redhead Premier. It will serve me well for a clay shooter that shots 200 rounds a month.
Stay well my friends... and keep the target close.
