I've been running the speed feed 13" on my 870 tactical and I love it. I saw this Remington side folder set on sale and figured what the heck. Does anyone have this? Opinions? Thanks.

Personally I will take a regular stock over pistol grips all day when it come to shotguns. They are just so much easier to control.NRA Endowment Life Member

It looks awesome. Thanks for posting, you've got me thinking about it.
I have put a Supercell recoil pad on an 870 and it was a big improvement over the old school vented type pad (that was in good condition, not hardened by age).God Bless America - My iTrader rating - https://www.calguns.net/forum/market...2-transactionsComment

Agreed. Most of my shotguns are traditional stock. My bedside 870p is wood and non tactical looking. I just have this one shotgun that I like to change around from time to time. It has a screw in choke and I have a breacher choke that I can toss in there. Would be cool to have folding stock with breacher set up. Not for any real world use.....just a conversation piece. I'm gonna give it a whirl for a bit for fun. Its shipping out today. I'll take pics and give a review when I finally get to go to the range with it.Comment

I know this is probably doesn't apply to your original question but something to remember for other folks looking at pistol grip shotguns of any type, is that the Mossberg 500 safety, being on top of the receiver, is a little bit tougher to reach once you go pistol grip compared to other models like Remington, Winchester and even mossberg's low budget line Maverick.
I also concur with the others have mentioned. From personal experience using a pistol grip Mossberg, that did not have any type of shoulder stock, was not only slightly uncomfortable to shoot heavy loads or a full day of shooting but of course your accuracy suffers as well as soon as you don't have the three points of contact that a stock provides.
( that said, I actually like the Mossberg's safety location because it's very easy to see what position is on.)Last edited by sealocan; 06-23-2020, 12:34 PM.Comment

Oh yeah pistol grip pump 12 guage shotguns are brutal. 90% of the time it will be shot with stock.
I am used to the remington safety. I struggle with mossberg due to my muscle memory. I agree with your statements on mossbergs though. I wouldnt dare put a pistol grip stock on my 930 spx for the safety location problem.Comment

I'm not sure if you can cycle and fire a 2nd shot with it folded.
I would hope you could.
The website doesn't say anything about it. It does say: Right Side folding Stock - For portability and storageLast edited by BOBGBA; 07-01-2020, 4:54 PM.God Bless America - My iTrader rating - https://www.calguns.net/forum/market...2-transactionsComment

Sounds like it would work in the folded position - still would like to see it in action."1911 mag, twinkie, twinkie, cupcake, primary weapon mag"

On my Remington 870 I use the Butler Creek folding stock that holds three shells in the buttstock. It folds to the left and doesn't inhibit any function. Personally, I love the pistol grips on my shotguns but I am also comfortable with a conventional stock on my shotguns as well. Holding the shotgun one handed is easier for me with a pistol grip. I don't think that I would like one that folded towards my ejection port. I like the ability to quickly feed rounds at the last minute if I need to. In case anyone is wondering, my stock folded to the left also doesn't impede my getting to my side saddle or velcro shell holder strap either.Comment

Ok set is installed. First impressions. It is solid as a rock. The swing is nice. It doesnt flop around when folded but doesnt have a locking lug. When open it is a hair long at shortest spacer. I am used to a 13"lop and this is around 13.25-13.5 lop. I notice it. It isnt fit and finished meticulously. I dont mind it a bit though. The stock to pad fit has some clearance issues. The cheek weld is kinda cool...as it is soft to the touch. The foam wobbles a bit when you mess with it. Still no problem.
I ran 6 snap caps through it and no hang ups. As taught to flip the gun upside down to load, I had no problems feeding shells into the loading port with stock folded. I dont have a side saddle, but I did simulate over the top loading of the chamber and the folded stock didnt impede anything. Ejection was positive and cleared the folding stock just fine. I'll try live fire tomorrow.
The forend is comfortable. It has mlok on both sides for a light. It should have mlok on bottom for a vert grip. Personally I would never add a vert grip, but why not have the provisions. Looking from barrel side down it does look unfinished. Once again doesnt bother me.
I'm gonna run it through its paces tomorrow. I fully expect to take it all off afterwards and toss it in the safe until prices normalize on 870s and I can find a budget 18.5 870 to stick it on full time.
For now it is on an 870 tactical with threaded barrel, ghost ring sights model. I prefer the feel of the speed feed iv-s 13" lop stock with standard plastic corn cob forend.
Another thing to note on the forend is that it appears to protrude further than the extended mag coupler. I will confirm that tomorrow. But if true, then it would not allow a sling attachment such as the scattergun technologies side sling mount or the like. I will confirm or deny that tomorrow.
Any questions?Last edited by pythonfan; 06-27-2020, 11:26 PM.Comment
