    Arthritis and shotgun shooting

    Hi guys,

I'm in mid 50s and started having Arthritis symptoms on my hands. I am taking the medication and it is helping a bit. I think I have to give up USPSA pistol shooting matches I used to do, but I'd like to continue shotgun shooting (frequent skeet training, monthly skeet matches, occasional sporting clays) while I can.

Are there shotgun shooters with Arthritis on this board? How are you dealing with Arthritis? My trigger finger works fine so far, but my grip became weak.

Don't know if it is me, but i have it on a couple of fingers and in both wrists. What noticed, that the right wrist have mild case compare to the left. I attributed it to the fact that I'm right-handed, therefore, the right wrist gets more "exercises".
i started exercising my wrists 2-3 times a day like 5-10 min each time.
Now i almost do not have any pain. Only on some bad days or after heavy work.
Maybe it can help you also. BTW, i'm 58YO

Change your diet drastically. Eliminate anything that causes inflammation. Start adding Turmeric to your coffee or smoothies. Start exercising and lose weight.

      Good luck.

I shoot sporting clays competitively and have really bad arthritis in my thumb joints, from shooting. Anti inflammatory, lidocaine patches and ice, help, but still painful after shooting.

Semi auto guns weigh less, and recoil less. Maybe give them a try?

I'm 64 and have been dealing with arthritis in various forms for years. My wife and I both take a lot of supplements to help keep it under control and we both believe they have made a remarkable difference. Here are the supplements we take.

              Turmeric with Curcumin (High Absorption)
              Hyaluronic Acid
              Glucosamine with MSM
              Fish Oil

Prior to this regimen we were both on Meloxicam. My wife was on it for about 10 years and I took it for about 5 years. This stuff is seriously dangerous for long term use and my wife could have died from an internal bleed that it caused. Obviously we both stopped it immediately upon recommendation of her GI.

The supplements do help and some (fish pills for one) have other health benefits as well.

I have arthritis in both wrist and in the carpol bones in my left wrist, been taking CBD oil for the last 6 months and have been almost pain free.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Greatly appreciated!

I'm taking Meloxicam 15 Mg daily. It helps a bit. My doctor suggested to switch to Naproxen 500 Mg if Meloxicam is not working. From reading the articles on the Internet, Meloxicam seems more effective than Naproxen to ease Arthritis pain and inflammation.

I'd agree I should not take Meloxicam for too long...

Hopefully in a few weeks! I'll try CBD and anti-inflammatory supplements and diet.

Are you putting it in the joints or are you ingesting it? Thanks.

During this Covid mess, be careful using anything like Naproxen or Ibuprofen. IIRC, there's anecdotal evidence (and theoretical) that they make you more susceptible to the Covid infection.

If you do consider taking Naproxen, ask your doc about taking a dose of Acetaminophen at the same time. Studies have proven taking both together increases their effectiveness.
