Semi Auto VS Over/Under

I shoot both o/u and a semi, They both have there place, And on any given day if I am on I can shoot both very well, You can find many responses here, But a lot is personnel preference, Try them both and see.

You don't have to spend a lot of money on an over/under.
I have a Stoeger 12 Gauge Condor Competition Over/Under Shotgun and did no worse than the people using their high end over/unders.

Have a trap Beretta 391 and use a shell catcher. No bending over

If a competitive shooter, you want the durability/reliability of a breech loader.

It's human nature to desire the tools of the accomplished.

My most costly shotguns are Beretta 682's. Beretta's "entry level" competition shotgun. Not all that expensive even in their day and they've won a lot of tourneys.

A lot of task based engineering goes into higher grade O/U's. Of course there's a lot of "pretty" (functional art) available.

Guaranteed to add 3 birds to your score. You can't shoot a 28 with an auto.

As mentioned...a lot of it is how you feel about what you are using. Some of it is the gun...

I always wanted an O/U...got one and love it. I like shooting semi auto as well...but I like having two choke sizes and love the breaking of the gun while shooting and the process of reloading...there is a pattern I like getting ready to shoot.

Shoot what you got...try different makes and models. You can rent them at many places as well...

Just recently got into skeet/trap/clays and I've been using my berreta 1301 comp with 24" barrel...

Is there something I'm missing with over/unders? Are Over/Unders that much better or is it just an aesthetics thing?

When you are "D" class it doesn't make much of a difference. As you move up you might want a better tool to use. Also, if you are going to be shooting a lot, then you might want a bit more durable shotgun. O/U sporting shotguns are more durable and are designed for heavy use.

Finally, on an O/U you can have two different chokes one for closer targets and the other for far targets.

I have been shooting trap and skeet since the late 70's. I have noticed that those who only shoot those courses, will eventually transition to an over under. I shoot to maintain my bird shooting skills, so I use the same shotgun I use in the field, which is a semi auto.

Those are very good guns! I have a 20 gauge and my buddy has a 28 gauge, both fun to shoot.
