    Benelli m2 bolt question

    just got a used m2
was playing around with it and ended up unintentionally removing the barrel. when i tried to reinstall it i found that the bolt face gave me some trouble b/c it apparently piviots slightly as it meets the barrel.
at first i couldnt get it to go back on, but when i did and cycled the bolt a few times i found that when letting the bolt move forward slowley, when it comes in contact to the barrel it stops and does not pivot (i think it upward). it just stops short. but when i pull the bolt back and let it fly then it pivots correctly. ( edit...just looked it up. i guess i'm talking about the bolt-locking-head)

is this normal or did i do something wrong. it seemd to be working fine before i F'd with it. i'm wondering if its a lubrication issue or something else. the head/face seems to be drooping slightly when cocked back (or maybe it's my imagination.

    help!

Push in that flat button by the trigger (carriage release), pull the bolt back to lock it in the open position. remove the barrel. reinstall the barrel and hand tighten the nut. Close the bolt. Done

The bold needs to be locked back when you remove the barrel and reinstall the barrel

Down load an owners manual from Benelli.

Rereading your post ......the bolt rotates to lock onto the barrel. A slow (by hand) drop of the bolt may not be enough force to rotate the bolt. You will hear about the Benelli click at some point ....anyway, try a bump on the carge handle or just use the bolt release button to close the bolt

The bolt head typically does that and it's not an issue. I have several Benellis and they do the same thing. There was an issue a few years back that the bolt head wouldn't seat (return to battery) when loading a new shell, but IIRC it was the SBE 2 line. It was known as the 'Benelli click'. It doesn't hurt to put a drop of oil on the side of the bolt head though.

You shouldn't have any issues when you're shooting it, but one thing some people encountered was the bolt going out of battery when they bumped the butt stock on the ground or while the gun was facing straight up after bumping the buttstock. Best thing to do is nothing but making sure it goes into battery when you load a shell. In all the years I have shot them, I haven't had an issue provided I handled the gun properly.

it actually came with the manual.....i haven't cracked it yet. i just was playing with the magazine tube end cover, which i found, accidently, is all that is holding the barrel in place. so at first i couldn't reseat it, so then i totally removed it thinking "no sweat". and then i was in this situation i described. i looked up how to reassemble the m2 by benelli on youtube, but it didn't seem to go in as smoothly as it appeared on the video, nor did it discuss lubrication.....

i'll put a few drops on the head and follow the directions provided above and see what happens.
Thanks, all for responding!!! i'm surprised i got any feedback with all that is going on in the US right now.

          regards,
          john

interesting, seems to be the case with mine.
i finally had a chance to yank the bolt, disassemle it, clean it, and lube it. the operation is pretty smooth, but it still hits that point where the head is supposed to pivot but doesn't, in the case where i'm racking it slowly. it just stops and doesn't twist. But on quick/normal conditons where i pull the bolt back and then let 'er fly, it functions perfectly.

if this is a known issue as you say, then i'll just leave it at that. but stuff like this just irritates the heck out of me!
I'm going to be getting some aftermarket parts to turn this into a 3-gun model. i wonder if a performance aftermarket bolt would do the same (if they even make an aftermarket one...)
