    1897 project gun

Probably 20 years ago I was given a 1910, 12ga, Winchester 1897, take down. It already had it's original barrel cut down to 20 inches. Wood, action, blueing are all very good. I have never shot it. I always thought that I'd get around to sticking a bead sight on it and shooting it. Since it was not in original shape I didn't think of selling it. In this Shelter In Place time I've started looking at what I need to do to turn it into something I could shoot. The take down is tight with no movement. I have read about a problem with chamber dimensions on these early guns. Should I see about having the chamber lengthened or just find it a good home and think about some of the other projects I've been putting off? If I decide to have the chamber lengthened. is there a competent gunsmith near Sonoma County that could do it? Thanks
Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws.

    Sorry, late to the party.
What did you come up with on that old shooter? I have aone from 1913 that I shortened up a bit and added a sight to. I think I have a link to what to look for on the 97 for checking it out. I can't help you on a smith for it in your area, but there are some real good ones in the country to get it running like a champ.
