I use 2 shells of bird shot followed by 2 shells of 00 Buck in my shotgun in the home. I do not feel undergunned.

I would agree that low recoil double 00 shotgun shells are best. I have an old Remington 870 police trade in shotgun that works probably better than new because the action is really slick through use. I use that as my home defense shotgun loaded with 4 rounds of low recoil double 00 and a slug to finish it off.

Any recommendation for a LGS in Bay area still stocking 00 shells. Most of those I called are out.

If attacked by quail #7 birdshot will work 50/50. If anything larger use buckshot.

Check Paul Harrel videos on Youtube. He does not prefer 00 buck, over penetration. Police like it because it does penetrate steel car doors better. He also does not prefer 3" shells.
00 is great for deer. #4 buck for home defense against people. Larger diameter buckshot gains you nothing because smaller buck will penetrate to a perfect distance and deposit just as much weight of lead there and do as much damage to the target. But less damage to the 3rd or 4th wall penetrated behind the target. Or innocents standing in the line of fire outside your house walls.

If you live in a apartment, 4buck is a good balance between hitting the target and not penetrating the walls.

I've yet to see a post discussing wall penetration with a shotgun shell. Does anybody have info about an actual through a wall penetration? Were others harmed due to over penetration?

Same question...does anyone have actual info on penetrating a third or fourth wall beyond the target, or anything related to hitting non-combatants outside the house walls?
