    It's a SBS 870

I believe we can get the 870 tac14 here which would be the closest without the stock

      Negative on that.
CA SBS laws makes it (Remington TAC-14) a SBS, even though it is not considered a SBS under Federal laws.

Closest for CA, would be an 870 AOW with an arm brace.

Shotguns must have an 18” barrel

Well a shotgun made as a shotgun and a full stock like the video.

Their are some strange CA/ fed rules on AOW

But typically - amongst other things - shotguns need an 18” min barrel length and 16” for rifles
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
            (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

Nope. It would be considered a SBS, because it has a barrel length of less than 18" and has a shoulder stock.

In order to be legal in CA, it needs BATFE approval and CA DOJ approval.

                Under Federal laws/regulations...

A firearm with a smoothbore barrel that is 18" or greater and an overall length of 26" or greater and has a shoulder stock is a Title 1 Shotgun.

A shotgun with a less than 18" barrel length and less than 26" overall length is a Title 2 SBS.

A firearm with a smoothbore that is less than 18" barrel length and greater than 26" overall length and does not have shoulder stock is a Title 1 Other.

A firearm with a smoothbore that is less than 18" barrel length and less than 26" overal length and does not have shoulder stock is a Title 2 AOW.

                Under CA laws/regulations...

A firearm that can discharge shotgun shells with a smoothbore barrel and a shoulder stock is a shotgun.

A firearm that can discharge shotgun shells with a less than 18" barrel length is a SBS.

A firearm that can discharge shotgun shells with a less than 26" overall length is a SBS.

A firearm that is made from a shotgun and has a less than 18" barrel length or a less than 26" overall length is a SBS.

A firearm with a non-rifled barrel that is less than 18" or has a overall length of less than 26" is an unconventional pistol.

A firearm with a less than 16" barrel length is a handgun.
^A handgun can also be considered a SBR/SBS if it meets CA's definition of a SBR/SBS.

                  No.

Federal laws have required shotguns to have a minimum barrel length of 18" for the last 86 years.

At the risk of steering this thread out of it's lane...

Most 18"-barreled shotguns sold today have barrels of 18.5" (for at least one reason, to leave room should the crown be damaged then repaired the barrel will still be over 18").

As Quiet noted, an 18" barreled shotgun regardless of action (break-action, pump, or semiauto) has for decades been the accepted standard of defensive shotgun. What would be difficult would be using your 28" or 30" game barrels within the confines of your home, even then it can be done with practice in gun handling.

If you live in tight quarters, why not look at a 16" barreled rifle? One would be a 16.5" barreled AR-15, another (and my personal preference,) a 16.5" lever-action (Rossi, Winchester, Marlin, Henry) chambered in .357 Magnum.

Granted, one 5.56 bullet or one .357 Magnum slug per trigger pull may not *seem* as effective as NINE .33 caliber lead balls (the quantity and caliber of double-aught buckshot loads) per tigger pull, but...

An 18" barreled shotgun, defying popular lore, still isn't a "scatter gun"; it must be aimed as you would a rifle if you want accurate shot placement.

Regardless, if you choose an 18" shotgun, you MUST upon taking legal possession take it to your target range and PATTERN it's shot load on PAPER at various distances (5, 7, 10 and 15 yards to begin with) so that you can see for yourself how small the pattern can be in close quarters combat.

                    Good luck to you.

I just scored a 18.5" M500 barrel with Rifle Sights off Ebay for my HD gun. I wanted this so that my gun would be more accurate with slugs if I had to leave my house during a fight. I have a big yard and a 50 yard shot is not out of the question. Don't worry about Rifle Sights inside the house as I can run them just as fast as a bead, because I got trained up at Front Sight,,,, 5 times!!!

The Police can have 14" SBS guns and that is the primary market for those guns. They primarily come from Remington or Mossberg or Hans Vang will make you one. You, John Q Citizen can also have one in any state that allows Short Barreled Rifles. The Fun Police have banned them in CA except for LE.

An 18.5" shotgun barrel is exactly 4.5" longer than a 14" shotgun barrel and that is NOT going to make much difference in a CQB situation "IF" you know how to run the gun, and know how to clear a room, and know how to go thru a door, you will be fine.

TV is not the best place to learn these skills,as they almost never do it right!

Like "200 Apples" said you definitely need to pattern your shotgun at close ranges to see exactly where it shoots. If it has Rifle Sights you can adjust them (shooting slugs) for POI out to 35-50 yds. which will be the same for Shot. If it only has a bead front sight You will have to compensate for the offset between POA vs POI,,,, and learn it well..

I highly recommend you stoke it with Low Recoil Buckshot and Slugs (Federal) and stay away from the heavy duty stuff. At less than 15 yards it won't make any difference in the effectiveness of the gun, however the Heavy Duty stuff will beat the snot out of you, and make you sorry you bought a Shotgun instead of a Rifle.

In any event you need to get professional training in the use of any gun and it will make you competent and less likely to do something stupid when the SHTF!

A 18 inch is VERY handy.
I shot a 10 and 14 inch a LONG time ago, there is more cool factor to those but you still have a control problem with them.My 20 inch is OK but I think I am so use to the 18 anything else seems a bit bulky.
