    Briley Tubes!

Just acquired a set of 28 gauge Briley full length tubes for my 12 gauge shotgun, It has extractors and today upon opening the gun, It pulled the tubes out about an inch instead of the shells, Anyone have this happen?

    Which tubes?
Are you sure you had them aligned properly over the extractors?
I have the Ultimate Ultralite tubes for my Browning, never an issue.

these are Briley common tubes, And yes they were in properly, They shot fine for the first 5 stations and then the problem, Gonna call Briley on Monday. Also see a lot of temp fixes in the shotgun forums.

If I'm not mistaken, those are held in the chamber by O-Rings, and should take a little force to seat them. If these are new I doubt the O-Rings are worn out, it could be the extractors on the tubes need some lubrication.
If they are used, you may need some new O-Rings.

There are no O-rings, Looks like a rubber dimple to keep snug, But maybe I should make sure the extractor is lubed well.

But on the other hand, Doesn't take a lot of force to seat them.

Seen it. Buddy's Krieghoff would do that on occasion. More so with steel head shells.

I haven't owned tubes, but did have a set of Seminole gauge adapters. A wrap if teflon tape was the prescribed method.

One of the fixes that I have seen so far is the Teflon tape!

Yes, steel heads don't shrink like brass when fired, steel tends to keep it's shape better. This at times can cause the case head to enlarge enough to pull the inserted tube up. This is especially true after getting the chamber warm/hot from firing and expanding.
If your tubes are long enough to get past your screw-in chokes (if you have them), sometimes using a tighter choke will stop this issue. Instead of using skeet chokes, try modified. If there is too much resistance though, don't pound on it too hard as your chokes will no longer be the same. It's okay that they are snug, but not too tight.

I have Seminoles for one of my guns and Seminole sold them with O-rings. I have found that teflon tape works better than O-rings.

Any luck after speaking with Briley? I have friends with 20 gauge and 28 gauge companion tubes for their Brownings. None have had any issues so far. They all acquired their tubes in the last three weeks.

Actually, one had a Herters hull stick in the chamber after his shot. It just would not extract. He extracted the spent hull at home since he did not have a rod small enough to do it at the range.

Briley said these tubes are older and if they were inserted right then maybe the nylon tabs are worn, They will send me new tabs for free for me to install or ship them the tubes ( I pay for shipping ) and they would install and I file to fit. I put a wrap of Teflon tape on them and hammered them in, seems way more snug now! Will give this a try first hopefully this does it.

Everyone that I know that reloads 28 gauge, uses AA. I think that is what you are going to want. Wait until they have a rebate (usually $2 a box) and you can get a supply for reloading.

The brass heads might help with the issue you're having.

What were your reloads and were they brass or steel heads?
