Anyone shoot a .410?

Just watched one of the Shooting USA shows and there is a AR style .410 with a 10 roung mag. Looks like a great fun gun.

The .410 is neat for what it is, but darn if that ammo is so hard to find these days. I remember when you could get a .410 shotgun and enough ammo to shoot up a storm for chump change over at Wal-Mart. I'm not going to argue that it's the best kind of gun for a kid, but when I was a kid the adults recommended those and .22's for us. At that time the ammo was almost as cheap and it was almost as available in my neck of the woods.

Nowadays I think the .410 falls into specialty category, or almost does. I personally am not too interested in them these days, but when I was a kid they seemed like shootin' little guns. Now for what you say you want, I think I'd recommend a 12 or a 20 depending on what recoil you prefer. I think with prices and availability the 12 is your best bet for just something to shoot with, but from the way it sounds you might already own one.

I guess it comes down to the specialty--there's nothing quite like the .410, it's kind of got the niche factor going for it. If that's the case and that's what you're looking for, carve your niche and go buy one. For ammo, your best bet might be using Google to find the cheapest prices. I bought my wife a Saiga 410. She loves it! She was a little intimidated by the Saiga 12, although she like to shoot her Remington 870 in 12 gauge. So I got her one in 410. She loves shooting 000 buch shot at paper targets stapled to plywood. Makes lots of splinters. Well I gave it a go and I will have to admit, it is fun. I think I like it more than the 12!

I have a Stevens .410 pump and it's my main pest control gun right now. I have a problem with a swarm of swallows attacking my just-painted house, dobbing mud near the eaves in an attempt to build nests. The bird poo is making a terrible mess as well! This has been going on for a couple weeks now, and enough is enough! My neighbors are having similar problems, and we have agreed to take action. Although we live far enough apart to safely use a 12 ga, I've been using the .410 to defend my house from the pesky birds. It launches far less pellets than the 12 or 20, so there's less chance of collateral damage. It more than does the job on Mr Swallow at close range, and so far two of the little mud-dobbers have bit the dust.

The .410 works well for the gophers without putting a 12-gauge divot in my nice lawn.

While the .410 costs about double what a 12 Ga costs to shoot, it is a fun gun and for some reason I really enjoy mine, even though it's much harder to hit with. A .410 does usually come in a smaller, lighter gun which makes it a very handy shotgun to pack around.

My .02 is buy one if you can find one in a nice, light and handy configuration. A semi-auto or pump would be cool, or maybe even a side-by-side.
