    bought my first one...

    hello..

just thought i'd share... bought a moss 500a 7+1 .... from big 5.. got a price from the mngr for 249 despite that price was offered long while back.. maybe it's the 4-5 trips i made there and spoke to him... he finally pitched me an unbelieveable price and i couldn't say no.... but still waiting for the 10 days.. get it on may 5....

only things haven't found a range that allows u to bring ur own shotgun and fire shells... around OC and inland empire... have heard of Prado but don't know if u can shoot at targets with shotgun....??? will also have to ask at RAAHAUGES...

any suggestions where i can take it and fire it... ???

most outdoor places will have a place to shoot one. You usually need permision from the R.O. if you are going to shoot one on a rifle range (target stand needs to be much closer so you don't obliterate it).

Iron Sights in Oceanside allows SG on their indoor range

Pretty sure that Prado will let you use an HD shotgun on their pistol range. But, they told me I couldn't shoot trap with mine there
Dunno about Raahauges, as I've only shot clays there. Clay birds are alot more fun than paper targets.

I just went trap shooting at Prado this last weekend with several friends. We had all kinds of shotguns...including one Mossy 500A with the 18" barrel. The guys working there didn't seem to mind that we were using a "HD" gun for trap.

To drpatel77...you'd be surprised about how fast you can pick up shooting trap. You can start hitting them with only a little practice! Go ahead and try it, I'm sure you'll like it.

Congrats on a great HD shotgun. About the same price I got mine for last year. Shouldn't take too long for you to buy another one to keep it company..

seriously u guys are so right.. already plans for 357 mag /38 sp revolver as well as planning to try out some semi auto to see which one i might want (9mm or .45 etc... ) initially wasn't planning on getting semi auto as more technical and cleaning /maintaining might require thorough knowledge of the weapon which obviously i don't have... revolvers are pretty simple and hard to mess up... so revolver for sure ... BUT would like to have semi auto down the road but will definitely rent and shoot some at ranges first....

it's crazy, before spent a lot of time on forums for cars / job related forums... now checking gun forums regularly... guess moving on to new things...

If you're running bird shot, why would they not let you use it? I mean you may not hit many targets shooting Trap, but Skeet may be doable.

I agree with you. But, I called Prado and asked about bringing my 20" barrell 870, they said "HD guns are not allowed on our trap range, but you can shoot it at the pistol range". So, I called Raahauges and they said "come on down".
The Raahauges guys are friendly, helpful and will continue to get my money.

Drpatel -- these things are addicting and you're right to think revolver for your first handgun, as I think shooting one in DA helps you develop a smooth trigger squeeze and they are pretty idiot proof. If you haven't had any, you might want to look into some training. This guy is great for local self defense classes that won't break the bank: http://www.firearmstraining.com/class_desc.html

It's just one Pistola per month, you can buy as many longguns as you like! I had 3 all in DROS at the same time no issues..

I've seen guys bring their HD shotguns to Prado and take it to the northern most (left) part of the trap ranges where they have their patterning board. I would bring some targets for patterning and shoot. As long as you keep a low profile, the range guys don't really bother you.
