I had shoulder surgery, a couple years back, and still enjoy hunting. I was thinking of making some kind of pad, that will go inside the shoulder of my hunting vest. I saw a pad at Bass Pro, but they wanted $39.95 for it. Any suggestions of what type of material to use for a shoulder pad?

I got a Caldwell one from tuners for dove season. That thing is ugly but it sure does a good job at absorbing recoil. I got it last minute so I really didn’t have my choices.Comment

A friend had the same issue, so I got some bulk Mc David Hex Pad padding. But in the end he never tried it. If you have friends or relatives who's kids play sports they may may have an old Mc David knee pad, hip pad or forearm pad that you could salvage the padding out of and cut to fit the pocket in a shooting vest/jacket to protect your shoulder. Much cheaper than buying something new that may or may not provide enough cushion.Comment

This one definitely looks very promising and potent and the price $12 each or $18 pair is great,
I'd also try a limbsaver recoil pad first. Those work great.Comment

What kind of shoulder injury. I am fighting tendonitis in my shoulder originating from the bicep. I have to work to keep the butt off that tendon and under my cheek. If I can mount then lock the stock under my chin and trigger hand while dropping my support hand I am fine. With that said I use limbsaver recoil pads and my best Browning vintage vest has a cotton pad velcroed opposite of the leather patch opposite side. I have a browning reactor pad I liked. It was thin but did a good job of spreading out kick of the shotgun. Check out the first review. The Beretta recoil pad is on sale for $12 (edit - just checked and the sale price is less than a $1 than normal price).

Unfortunately, some of the good pads are expensive. Check out:
*********************
WTS:
1. PW 800+ Hydro Multispeed (just the hydraulic unit that also works with Spolar press)
2. PW 800B converted to 800C (12 gauge) with lots of accessories and upgrades
3. Hornady 366 (12 gauge)
