Why do you need an aftermarket gas plug? Can't you just remove the current factory gas valve and plug with the same effect?

Just discovered the Maglatch devise which replaces the Vepr 12 gas plug. Essentially disables the gas system and makes the shotgun a single shot which must be cycled by hand. Looks like it complies with all of the current laws.

It does not make the firearm a single-shot.
It makes the shotgun into a straight pull bolt-action repeating shotgun.

single-shot = firearm has no magazine capacity, cartridge is manually loaded into the firearm's chamber.
repeating = firearm has a magazine capacity, manipulating a manually action (bolt, lever, pump) is utilize to feed a cartridge from the magazine into the firearm's chamber.

My question is, once this Maglatch gas plug is installed, do I have to keep the bullet button that came with the shotgun or can I remove it?

Once the shotgun becomes manually operated and it is no longer considered semi-auto, it would be CA legal to replace the "bullet button" style magazine release with a factory magazine release, because it is CA legal for manually operated (bolt, lever, pump) shotguns to utilize detachable magazines.

Fixed magazine is not really all that bad when you're talking about 10 rounds of 12 gauge in semi auto...that's a lot of firepower instantly.
