    Best holographic sight

    for the buck...

Seen a few in the $399+++ ranges - is there a good alternative than some of these pricier types? or is it the only way to go?

I think the best value is the C-More sight with built in rear sight. It really looks great on the AR.

Let me know if you are interested as I'm putting in an order soon.

I found an alternative! Don't know if it's any good though:

You could try the bushnell holosight, but if you spend a little more you could get an eotech.

Get in on the EOTech group buy, they are waaaay cheaper than lowest prices I've found on the net.

Hey also do you guys know the difference between the 516 and 557? I'm looking for one for my AR.

Assuming you're talking about a shotgun sight, the Eotech and standard Holosight are going to be a bit high off the receiver for a typical shotgun stocked for bead sight shooting. They're designed for the 1.4" cowitness height of the AR.

Bushnell makes the less expensive, futuristic looking Holosight XLP for traditional rifles and shotguns, and it sits lower than the standard Holosight, but isn't as sturdily made, and is more susceptible to zero shifts from getting knocked around.

The main difference between the Eotech and the standard Bushnell Holosight is that the Eotech has the roll cage, better battery life, and a wider range of brightness adjustment.

The sights in the post above aren't technically holosights (which use a laser to create a holographic reticle), though they'll certainly work well if they hold up to shotgun recoil.
