    Choke Failure

My son has been shooting his Mossberg 510 quite a few years. Hundreds if not over a thousand rounds.
Always used a factory Mossberg extended mod choke.
After our first dove trip, thought it might help him if I put a cylinder choke in. I had bought a Carlsons extended choke for it long ago. Put it in, went all the way and tightened up.
After three shots, I hear "Daaaaaad?" I look over and looks like a skinny snake it dangling out of his barrel.

Sent these pictures to Carlson's, they claimed bad heat treatment, a burr, or misaligned in the barrel.

Gun shot fine for years, highly doubt misaligned.

Took it out last night, ran a half a box through it with two other chokes, no issues.

They have a lifetime warranty, but they said I have to send them the damaged one.
Sorry, my son wants it as a souvenir.

I have never seen that before.

Get another choke and move on

Check the new one- unloaded with a finger

Does the choke fit flush with the inside of the barrel
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
    (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

No or improper bevel on the leading edge of the tube?

Hard to tell now but seems likely.

The odd thing was the smooth section of the choke tube, before the threads start. The part that enters the barrel first, that smooth ring was still in the barrel, after I pulled the damaged choke out. The ring separated at the threads.
