Benelli M4 vs Beretta 1301 Tac

I’ve been running one for a few years now. I was at a 4 day shotgun class and out of the M4’s, mossberg, and Remington. The 1301 is the only semi auto I saw NEVER have a problem. That’s what made my mind up. I have about 700 or so through mine with a mix of bird, 00 buck, and slug. Runs like a sewing machine

I currently own a 1301 Comp and love it for birds and clays with light loads. If I was going to be shooting 00 Buck and Slugs constantly for "tactical" reasons or home defense I would opt for the Benelli. The 1301 isn't bad with heavy loads, and is certainly better than a pump, but I think the M4's gas system is better designed for mitigating heavier recoil.

That being said I have never actually shot one to compare.

I have a 1301 Tac, buddy has a M4. After shooting both, the Beretta operated smoother(IMO). After about 500 rounds of various types of ammo (bird, buck, slug) the 1301 had zero malfunctions, while there was 8 in the Benelli (7 FTE and 1 FTF). I still think the M4 is an amazing shotgun, but I couldn’t help but smile knowing I paid $1k less and enjoyed my gun more.

I have both and prefer the Beretta 1301. I put a kick-off on it and the recoil is less than the M4 with equal loads. I have the 1301 Comp and when I put on the 24 inch barrel I can use it in sporting clays and skeet. You can't do that with the M4. I have regular shotgun stocks on both because I am more used to them than pistol grips on shotguns. They are both great guns, but the M4 does not like light loads, while the 1301 handles everything.

IN the Front Sight Classes I have been to I have seen that the Benelli's are more complicated to run but are nice shotguns.

The Beretta's are also nice and run easier and cost less.

My Browning A5 cost me $500 and another $125 for a Buck Special Barrel with Rifle Sights. It has never malfunctioned and is much faster to load and shoot than either of the other two guns.

Another gun to ponder. It is also way more accurate than either of the other two with slugs.

I've shot both, and with heavy loads, the M4 is softer. That translated to better accuracy for me specifically. I have not had problems cycling light trap loads, and have no issues with buck/slugs in terms of accuracy. The 1301 is slightly lighter, which also may have been a cause of the heavier felt recoil. I can ghost load in the M4, and with a +1, can hold 10+1. The 1301 has extended tubes also, but I have not added one yet. Ergos are also personal, and I prefer the traditional stock of the 1301 while shooting around, but for tactical types, I prefer the adjustable M4 on middle setting so that I can be square to the targets.

Kick-off is available for the 1301? I saw one on their site that implied compatibility in item title, but upon asking a rep at Beretta via Facebook he said it doesn't fit. I've yet to shoot mine, the desert is 100+ degrees. I've installed a Magpul SGA with the Aridus adapter, the thick pad on the SGA should help with recoil.

FYI... Best price I've found for the Nordic extension for the 1301: https://www.shieldgroupamt.com/produ...696021447-2229 But, it's often out of stock. I wound up getting one from grabagun.com (which is a little more) due to positive experience with past orders. 7+1 total capacity. Adds a little more weight to the muzzle. Also, for 2019 the 1301 is threaded for chokes and comes with two CYL Optima HP chokes. It's no longer fixed.

I've never held a Beretta 1301. Over the years I've almost bought a Benelli M4 on a number of occasions.

But my issue is I've read some reviews online as well as YouTube vids, etc where they show the Benelli M4 choking on Low Recoil shells. Specifically the Fiocchi 12 ga 00 Low Recoil shells I stocked up on many years ago and use 100% of the time for training and HD in my Mossberg 590A1. They're sated on the box at 1150 fps.

If the 1301 Tac can cycle them then I may be at LGS shopping for one very soon. Seems like a very reliable semi auto option.
