    Best heat shield?

I did a search and turned up virtually nothing. Yeah, I know it fringes on tacti-cool, but having burned my hand a few times during target practice I can kind of see how a heat shield might be useful. And yes, they look cool.

Anyone here use one on their shotgun, if so what brand? Does it obscure the front bead, and does it hold in place well?

Get a glove. There's no fringe about it, it's tacti-cool. And no they don't look cool. IMO. It's your $$ set up your gun how you like it and enjoy it.
I move slow but I make up for it by shooting poorly.

When I hit the lotto I'm only shooting factory.

Anyone have a counter argument to that? I'm willing to hear both sides.

I burnt my hand on the barrel of my Mossberg 500 the first time I took it to the range and now have a Mossberg Heatshield on the barrel. I believe it was about $38. Now I don't burn my hand on the barrel and it looks cool to boot!

Not everyone has tactical gloves they can put on to go shoot.

I personally got the John Masen heatshield for like $15 at midway. It works great, never had a burn since I got that on there.

The only problem is that it likes to walk forwards after about 300 rounds. Loctite should fix the problem though.

A lot depends on your planned usage. Gloves are easy to get and use, but it's another part you have to remember. A heatshield is always there.

Are there any downsides to a heatshield, aside from a little more weight and another piece to take of when doing a full breakdown? I've been considering one for my 1300, as it gets pretty durn hot when I'm running a lot of ammo through it. It's not a major priority, but if the cost is low, why not?

My plastic heatshield is pretty light, I honestly can't tell the difference whether its on or off. it doesn't interfere with stripping down my shotgun, and for the most part, it stays on.

How do you burn you hand during target practice?

I've got friends that shoot 200-300 shell in a single night while shooting Trap, and I've never seen one burn their hand or have a heatshield.

The foregrip is the handle, not the barrel.

Hey guys, just a quick question on heat shields, it's the last thing I need to know before making a decision. How much does it block view of your sights if any? I plan on using an aftermarket Meprolight bead or Hi Viz bead. Are they tall enough?

If your gun uses a threaded bead sight, most heat shields shouldn't obscure your vision of it, especially if you replace it with a hi-viz type bead.

I have a 500 that came with a stock heat shield on it and it has worked fine. I've never been able to figure out why a shotgun needed a heat shield my self, but this one has never gotten in the way. Comes off with the barrel and stays put.

I say if you want one, go for it. So some guys on the internet don't think your gun looks cool - big deal.

But I do have to admit I can't stop wondering what caused you to grab your barrel.

I may have been taught wrong and fully admit it, but I have been taught to hand a person a shotgun by holding the barrel. Again, not saying this is an infallible truth, it's just the way I was taught and perhaps it's a habit I need to break away from.
