    Remington model 48

SO I found a remington model 48 (mfg 1949) for $125. Any one know if replacement buttstocks are made for these? And if this is a good deal?

Check www.e-gunparts.com for parts on older shotguns. If they have the stock available for that model, it's a good sign. If not, they may be hard to find.

You could also ask over at www.shotgunworld.com on the Remington forum to see if other model stocks will fit it. The 48 has an action spring in the buttstock, I believe, which will limit interchangeability some.

Orphan guns (no longer supported by the manufacturer) can be a gamble. I have a couple of Remington Model 10s, which have problems with the stock cracking, and replacements can be difficult to find. I ended up buying a couple of beaters for spare parts, but I'm thinking I'll turn them in at the next gun buyback.

If you like project guns, it's a good deal if it's in nice shape.

Since the model 48 is so old, you will probable not be able to find much for it. The value seems okay, but there is a reason that it's cheap.
I do know that the gun has an action that moves the entire barrel, which in turn requires a LOT of lubricant or it will freeze up and is very diffucult to open. (You actually will probably need to use your foot to break it loose.)
It were me, I would probably opt for a newer shotgun.

Is that the old recoiling barrel semi auto Sportsman 48? If so, it is a SWEET shooting gun. I've got one in 16g that I've rarely shot. Bought it for the wife and she took off a month or so later, so I kept the damn gun. They're going for over 300, every time I see one.
