mossburg 500 OAL requirements & accessories?

My brother just got a mossburg 500 for HD and would like to get some accessories for it. I told him to google accessories for it, but I was wondering if anyone had some specific places that have some good deals. I'm sure he wants to go forward pistol grip, rear pistol grip, folding stock, and maybe heat shield. I'm not sure what kind of sites he would like though, any recommendations? OAL with folded is 30'' right? with an 18'' barrel?

As a pump-action shotgun, basically the only restrictions is that the barrel must be 18+", and the OAL be 26+", measured in its shortest fireable position. Evil feature counts only matter for on semi-auto shotguns.

Cabellas has a lot of accessories for sale. Advanced Technologies has pretty much everything you need for your M500. I got most of my stuff on ebay of all places.

I have a Moss 500 with FPG, ATI folding stock, heat shield, if you got the Moss 500 combo from Big 5, the forearm sucks and you will need a new tube and new in order to mount aftermarket forearms with FPG....

Get a Hogue youth stock and forend.
Buy quality and you'll only have to buy it once. Go with fuction rather than the COOL factor.

I agree with "function" over cool.

Check out the Hogue "tactical" stock; 12.5" pull (for guys wearing vests) WITH a full recoil pad. I have one on my Mossberg and I like it.

Look at replacing the plastic safety with a Vang Comp oversized metal safety. Look at replacing the magazine follower with a Choate magazine follower that prevents the spring from over-compressing (you may need a gunsmith to break the mag tube loose); also the Choate ribbed forearm is a useful plus.

These additions may not add much to "cool" but they will enhance the 500 where it counts, i.e. working when you absolutely have to have it work. I have 12 years experience carrying a shotgun for work and have seen most of the "cool" mods fail.

stay away from the ATI side folder...lots of slop. I'd give mine away in anyone wants to pick it up, along with the forearm, which doesn't work with a 500a from Big 5
