The glock of shotguns

I'm looking to buy a shotgun for home defense/plinking but I don't know anything about shotgun brands/models. What's the glock of shotguns? i.e. reliable, affordable, isn't crap

Ruh oh, don't start a glock war. I just looked up those two models. The Mossberg 500 has 6 rounds but the trigger pull is heavier. I prefer a lighter trigger pull but 4 rounds in the Remington 870 seems low.

The Mossberg 500 or its poor cousin, the Maverick (by Mossberg) for generally around $200.00. I have both. For home defense, the Mav is OK, it is great as a first shotgun. There are differences between the two but also some of the aftermarket parts can be used on either.

You can't go wrong with the 870 or the 500, plenty of options at every price point. My personal preference however is the 870.

Yes both 870 Rem and Moss 500 with over 11 million sold each. The most popular pumps in the universe.

Both the 870 and 500 have many different versions that hold more rounds than the base model. I prefer the 870.
