    Mossberg shotgun from Big 5

I saw the Big 5 ad , and they have Mossy "Security" 8-shot 12GA for sale for $279.99. They had previously on sale before this one, a Mossy combo with 2 barrels. The thing is they don't specify what's the Mossberg Manuf. part#.

Which one should I get with $300 budget: the Security or the Combo (when they become on sale again)? This is gonna be my 1st shotgun & just for HD & fun trip to the range purpose only.

Does Big 5 always has these on sale, or it's limited time offer only that I need to go get them asap? Thanks in advance.

The Security is a better shotgun. It holds 8 shots vs. the 6 shots the combo holds.

I would never use the 28" barrel unless i was hunting and even then i'd get a hunting shotgun.

I love the Security one I bought a few months ago at Big 5. I guess it was a good investment too, it was $249 on sale then

If it's for fun/security, get the security. The combo is unnecessary IMO. I got that same combo pack many years ago and have only used the longer barrel once. I'd rather live with the extra 1.5 inches on the barrel and gain the 2 extra shots. That's 33.3% more kablammo if you don't leave it chambered.
Then another horse PONY came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword. My kinda guy.

For Security get the 20" security...

But I love our combo's. 18.5" for when it sleeps under the bed at home and the 28" vent rib for when we go out and bust clays.... If you want to have fun at the range then get the combo, nothing is more fun with a shotgun then Trap, Skeet, and Sporting Clays.

The beauty of the combo is Options, Options, and more Options.
The combo gives you options. If you want to shoot Slugs with accuracy you could always buy a rifled slug barrel. If you want to bust clays you can slap on the 28" barrels that came with it. If you want a shotgun that can manuver around corners in a tight spaces, slap on the 18.5" barrel and your good to go for HD.

The security model is just that "Security".

Id say the combo is a great buy for a first shotgun. it provides you with the options to try out different types of shooting. then as you get more proficiant and comfortable with it you can always upgrade to a better shotgun.

But to each there own. Niether one is a bad buy

I'd get the Combo for the options and things you can do with it, but good luck finding the combo, I hear they have a shortage on them.

get the Combo. if U want Xtra rounds, get a side saddle or buttstock saddle.

i guarantee U, one day U'll try Trap/skeet/sporting clays and U'll get hooked.

Interesting about the Combo. So after this special expires on Sunday (4/19), they may rotate it with the Combo may be? What was the last price for the Combo?

Here's the thing: It's easier to swap barrels out on the combo model. You buy the security model and the magazine tube on it will not fit standard barrel sizes. The fix? With the 8 shot security model and you've got to swap the magazine tube out for a shorter one, which costs about 30 bucks.

My recommendation is to buy the 8 shot model and drop an extra 30 bucks immediately for a shorter mag tube. That way the shotgun can be configured for 8 shots for home defense, and if and when you want to shoot clays or possibly hunt, the barrel and mag tube could easily be swapped out.

The problem is if you buy the 18.5, finding the 8 shot's mag tube will be difficult. Whereas if you buy the 20 inch, finding the 18.5's mag tube is as easy as going to Brownell's.

                              It is usually a 590 or 590A1.
