    Found my shotgun!

OKay this will sound like I'm an idiot, but here goes. Back around 1980 My now ex-wife bought me a Remington 870. I used it the first couple of years then cleaned and stored it. I forgot about it until going through some storage boxes an there it was.

    Now my questions.
    1. When did we have to start registering guns? specifically shotguns.

    2. If it is not registered should I register it? I would like to take it out and shoot but do not want to be caught if it is illegal.

    3. How do I register it? Do I have to take it to an FFL or can I get the paperwork through DOJ?

    4. Can I put AW style forends and buttstocks and accessoires on it and be legal?

Thanks ahead of time for the info.

I wouldn't bother "registering" it, because you it has been yours from the start and you don't really register long guns anyway. Also, it's a pump gun, so you can do whatever you like to it - pistol grips (front and rear!) folding stocks, side saddles, bayonets and even clowns juggling chainsaws! Go to town!

there is no long gun registration in CA, except for AWs and .50BMG rifles.

As a pump-action shotgun, basically the only limitation is that you don't cut it down below 18" barrel, or 26" overall length.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
