    Blaser Question

I am currently shooting a Blaser F3 Super Trap for trap, but my wife and I are planning to have our first go at sporting clays this coming weekend. I plan to shoot my duck gun for the time being, but if we get more into sporting clays, can I just replace the rib on my Blaser, or get a shorter barrel set for sporting clays, or will the stock play a factor into how the gun shoots for the different directions and such as well?

What barrels and rib do you have now? Most guys shoot 30-32 inch barrels.

With a low or mid rib.

I have the 34 unsingle and a 30 inch double with mid rib. I think I could get away with shooting the double, maybe lower the comb or something, no?

        Get away with?

You'll be fine. No need for a new gun or barrels. Keep in mind, an ATA Sub Jr (65 and younger) is an NSCA Senior

SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. My wife might see that. You gonna ruin my chances at getting another shotgun.

We aren't that old, I just turned 38, and she's turning 36. Her birthday request was to get my parents to watch the kids so we can spend the day shooting. She's grown quite bored of trap shooting and wants to try something more fun. We are going to try and arrange a pheasant hunt for her as well.

Your wife might love Sporting Clays. I myself find it maddening, but I love it. In trap or skeet for that matter your mind takes over to play the game. In sporting clays the game plays with your mind. It is the ultimate game of whack-a-mole but with a shotgun. As soon as you think you figured it out you move to another station for more humiliation.

Use the shotguns you have. It won't matter anyway.

I'm not well versed with trap setups at all but aren't the trap barrels set up to have a higher poi so the shooter can actually visualize the clay? I don't shoot trap or have any trap guns, but I thought that was the case.

Is your double barrel a super trap or a vantage barrel? If the poi situation is true and you have a super barrel you can adjust the rib. I'd rather adjust the rib than the comb.

Question about your F3, the super trap has the monte carlo stock right? Just a thought, but if thats the case then trying a flat rib won't work. I've been wanting to put a super sport barrel on my competition but I need the monte carlo stock. The fitless barrels are amazing. Take a trip to your dealer and try out barrels to see what what you like.
But if your double super barrel has the adjustable rib then that would be a sweet set up. Start at the patterning board and get it set up.
Man, this place has gone bonkers.

I pulled the double barrel out last night, and yes, it is adjustable, and it is taller than I remember it being. After looking at it last night, I don't think it will work. The POI is different for the two barrels, meant for the clays flying away from the shooter at different heights. Rather than adjusting the rib for clays and then back later for trap, I think I'll shoot the first round with my duck gun. If we do end up shooting it more, I'll look into getting a different barrel, but at the prices for the barrels and stock, I might as well buy another shotgun.

Most of these shotguns can be adjusted to shoot flat if you want to. Mine is setup that way because I started shooting trap using a semi-auto sporting clay gun (Benelli Supersport). I'm so used to it that I set the gun to shoot flat when I bought a new O/U. Check out the user manual, it should tell you how to set it using both the rib and the adjustable comb.

The only issue with this though, is that if you go back to shooting trap, then you'll have to adjust it back which can be a pain.

Blah, blah, blah, for your first time any shotgun you have will be fine.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. But now I need to hose off the goose blood and mud off if it.

I thought the minimum age requirement for ATA was 65? (60 if you meet the sour disposition threshold)

Our combined age meets the average

This is why my wife was getting "bored".
