They make a left handed trigger group for the 870. In fact there's one in the marketplace for sale...

My wife is right handed too. I feel the Mossberg would be the best choice for us. I just need to know if there is a significant difference or personal preference between choosing a 500 or a 590.
I also have the G19 as my bedside HD weapon. The shotgun is in our office in the center of the house.

8 shot 500 or a standard 18.5 inch 500 are both just fine. I prefer a mossberg personally. Regular butt stock, no pistol grip.

              Get the 590.

That split second could be the difference between life and death.

My wife is right handed. If you have a (right-handed) significant other you might want to consider the Moss500, it’s lighter too.

There’s nothing wrong with the LH trigger group, until a righty picks it up.

So pick your battle. FWIW I’m now using a G19 for HD.

                Good luck!
                How I says too

Get the 590. The heat shield makes it look way more intimidating. Those of us who have dealt with deaf intruders who weren't scared off by racking the slide, and the #8 shots in the air the balcony, know won't make that mistake again.

Either 500 or 590 is fine.

I shoot left-handed and have an 870 for my pump and 930 for semi. If you must use a safety, then Mossbergs are nice with the ambi safety. For the pump action, I store with full mag, empty chamber and safety off.

                    Go 590.

This. Unless you are really just looking for an excuse to buy another shotgun.

I added this to the myriad of Mossbergs I own and I like it over the A1 for home duty. http://www.mossberg.com/product/590-7-shot-50778/

                            I didn’t know that they also offer a 7-shot A1, now. https://www.mossberg.com/product/590a1-7-shot-50776/
