    shotgun rental

I was out at Comanche Hills last weekend. I knew they had a limited number of shotgun rentals. I asked about them; after going to Birds Landing which had a couple dozen rentals. I had rented a Beretta O/U at Birds Landing.

They said there were new regulations that would limit(or eliminate) rentals, and even make ammo sales difficult.

One of the things advised frequently here, is to go try a shotgun before buying.

Are rentals going to be a thing of the past soon?

I've been to indoor ranges where they wouldn't let you rent a gun unless you came to the facility with at least one other person or you brought another gun in with you.

Having said that I did rent several shotguns at Triple B's not too long ago and in fact I was there alone. That was quite a disappointment however as the guns were in terrible need of maintenance. One of the O/U's I rented, a Silver Pigeon I believe it was, had a ejector fall out in the parking lot on my way to the field. Also several light primer strikes on that Beretta which resulted in several wasted shells and clays.

But back to your question, I guess they are trying to limit their liability for anyone with intent to harm themselves or others. Suicides don't usually occur in pairs I suppose is their logic.

A quick google search didn't turn up anything. While not unbelievable in this state, it sounds like FUD as far as rentals go. We know that ammo purchases will be more difficult.

Can you ask Comanche Hills for specifics regarding new laws on the rental of guns?

I think the OP is referring to the upcoming changes in July of next year. It's a good question.

I guess the choices would be, no change, no rentals, no rentals unless accompanied by a range officer.

In this state, anybody's guess is as good as the next. Pick the worst option, and that's probably the one we'll end up with.

The upcoming July 2019 law change is about ammo only.

There is nothing I've seen (but I could have missed something) in regards to changes regarding shotgun rentals. I would have thought it would have been discussed here, if a new law had been passed.

Maybe Comanche Hills is predicting what Newsome will do....

Next time you go to M&M or Raahauges, can you ask if they know anything about it and update this thread?

          Here's a link to 2019 changes.
In 2019 California's gun laws will get even tougher, but not all of them take effect on New Year's Day. Many gun owners don't know what's going to be legal or illegal, and that starts with a new law that will dramatically affect how you buy ammo. FOX26 reporter Rich Rodriguez investigates and uncovers California's confusing new gun laws. Full interview by Rich Rodriguez. The most controversial new gun law in California focuses on ammunition.

Corey at Moore and Moore said that the way he understands the and law is that he can sell ammo to use in the range guns as long as he insures that none of it leaves his premise.

Trust me, at some point in the near future our glorious state will figure out a way to discourage law abiding citizens from shooting sporting clays.

Why rent? Just take up ysr_racer on his offers to shoot his guns for free!

I think why they are resisting rentals is suicides. It happens more with handguns but there was even one at Prado in chino hills with a rented shotgun a few years back. They guy shot one round of Trap and then stuck the gun in his mouth. I can’t even imagine what kind of horror that was for the range.

To be fair, trap is pretty boring and the geezers that shoot it are annoying
