    Anyone use cylinder choke?

My quail gun was machined to accept Trulock thin wall (flush mount) chokes.

Over the years I've had pretty good luck shooting quail with skeet tubes using lead shot. But this season I've had a harder time hitting them using steel shot. Rumor has it that steel shot doesn't spread as quickly as lead. So I'm thinking of trying cylinder chokes; waiting to hear back from Trulock as to whether they sell them.

    Any ideas?

My gun shoots about a choke tighter with steel, Mod gets me close to a full and IC is close to a mod. Get some butcher paper pattern the two different shell and you'll know whats happening.

Yes I have used CYL chokes with steel. However the statement is meaningless

The trick with steel, and lead, but big time with steel, is to pattern your shell and choke combo to see what is really happening down range. You will be amazed at what you may find.

It was certainly an eye opener for me when I tested different store bought shells, pellet sizes, chokes....some were night and day. Reloading steel was just as bad at finding the combo....and the smaller the gauge, the bigger the difference between loads

Choke means nothing unless its partnered with a particular loaded shell. You shoot spreader loads through a Mod choke and get Skeet or Cyl patterns

What helped me was to understand that what's marked on the choke assumes nominal back bore inside diameter...you might find it's not "nominal", but a few thou over or under. Once you know that, you can calculate actual choke function by checking the difference between choke and back bore id's.

Thanks, everone! I've ordered a couple of cylinder chokes from Trulock. We'll see how they work out.
