The same reason that there's litter all over. Some people just don't care and/or are lazy.

Hard to cure this, without someone standing there to point out the error of there ways.

Nope, they just feel good when someone cleaning after them.
In general people enjoy when someone serves them, clip their nails, rub their back, wipe their *****, same with the garbage, do you know how superior they feel when throwing garbage on the floor knowing someone will pick after them?

If i had a dollar for every time i see a family having a picnic in the park and live all the garbage at the place were they did it despite the fact that similar to your barrel less than 20 feet away.

I carry an extendable mechanics magnet in my shotgun vest. Makes hull pickup easy peasy.

Don't understand those that do not pick them up. I've read some ranges discourage it; the range folks pick them up. Never seen that though.

Depends on the range rules. Many of the Sporting Clay ranges I shoot, there is no requirement picking up hulls. The range staff does pickups. When I shoot an O/U, I always deposit hulls into the can, regardless.

It's tougher when shooting an autoloader. Sometimes hulls fly 8"-10" away and it's unsafe when other shooters are shooting to try picking them up.

When shooting a Skeet or Trap range, it's easy to pickup hulls from any Shotgun.

Depends where you're shooting and what the range rules are on that particular range.

Some ranges are good with you picking them up, some are not.

I follow the rules of the range.
