Want to Convert to HD Need some insight

I have a 870 synthetic super mag, with a 26" bbl. I want to put an 18" bbl on it and get a mag extension. What mag extension should I get to bring it out even with the end of the bbl? Thanks.

the cheapest workable one. the gun gets taken away if you have to use it, and getting it back can take an irrational amount of time sometimes...

there was a reallllllly realllly good thread on here that had a link to another realllly reallly good thread about shotgunning..

it totally made me rethink about a home defense setup.. it covered side sadldles, ammo types, mag extensions, lights, sights..etc etc.. the guy basically stated that depending on where you were (urban, suburbia, farmland, remote..etc etc) totally dictated how the shotgun be setup..

To give you an example.. I live in a well populated area.. If shots are fired, police WILL be on the scene within 5-10 minutes. I don't need 20 rounds of buck or slug.. and the distances fired will all be within 10-15 yards.. With that in mind, i slimmed down the gun, removed the side saddle and saved some money by not installing ghost ring or fiber optics for the front sight.. ammo used would be buck as everything is 'close' range.. no need for anything more devastating than that.. also, carrying extra ammo was really not necessary as in all likelihood, the type of 'crime' i would be facing would either end quickly or would be handled by the arrival of police..

on the other hand, if i was on some farm where 'help' wasn't nearby, the shotgun would be setup different.. mag extension, ghost ring nightsights, side saddle for more ammo..buck and slugs for 'ranged' use..

This is really a lame@ss condensed version Im giving you but Im trying to simply give you a synapsis of what was covered..if you have the time, it's definitely worth searching for.. im a noob when it comes to shotguns, but the advice seemed quite sound..

Yeah understand all that I guess I should say HD/SHTF Shotgun. I for sure want to get a shorter bbl, The mag extension can come later. I was just curious What mag extension will come out flush wit the end of an 18" bbl a 2 or 3 shot extension?

I think that you use a 2 shot extension for an 18" or 18.5" and a 3 shot for 20" barrel. Tac Star is the cheap alternative (25-35$) to the factory extension (75$+).

If you can't shoot the BG in the first three-four shots, you're done.

Sorry, I just saw your other post... if it's SHTF, too, don't worry about the looks (again). Get the longest extension.
