Friend wants to re-barrel this old Pump shotgun..
I am not familiar with these.
Looks like a Remington pump, I dont know what year it was made.

Looks in good shape from here. If he wants to make it more versatile he can have screw-in chokes added to it.

Looks like a model 31 to me. TMK there are no new barrels and they may have to be fitted ala the early Ithaca model 37's.

If it’s a model 31, finding a barrel might be difficult.

Why does your friend want to change the barrel?

There are some nice examples on gun broker for 300-400 bucks

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
        (thanks to Jeff Cooper)

There's a guy in Socal that I believe can thread them for screw in chokes.
I'm sure there are others closer to you

What's the issue with the existing barrel?

No such thing as new for that shotgun. And it may well need to be fitted.

What is wrong with the barrel? Why replace it? This makes no sense.

Barrel is too short, He wants a longer barrel.
I am finding out they are very hard to find and probably not worth the effort..
