    Escort Shotguns?

    Hello Shotgun Afficionados,

I received the Turner's fall flyer and saw several Escort shotguns on sale. Price was really good especially on the semi-autos of which I am interested in.

I don't know much about this brand so I headed over to two of my nearest LGS to see if I can handle a sample. Both LGS don't have any to show me, but both said that for the price, they are " good " shotguns.

They can order me one if I want, but not having handled one, I am reticent in doing that. I was informed they are made in Turkey like the Weatherbys, the CZ shotguns, and some others. Now, I am not loathe as to where a firearm is made, as long as quality is there.

Can you give me some feedback/experience/rumor about this line of shotguns? I am in the market for a semi-auto. I would use it mainly for HD, range fun, and who knows.....hunting ducks maybe or geese????

It’s a crap shoot.... Like all Turkish guns, some will be great and run for thousands of shells, and many will have issues early on. You most likely are going to get what you pay for. If you are going to spend only $300 on an auto loader, earmark another $250 for repair parts and labor.

My advise- spend another few hundred bucks and look at the lower end Beretta and Franchi auto loaders. Mossberg is also making some decent lower cost auto loaders if you are looking for a heavy gun.

I bought one as my first gun ever approx 2-3 years ago. Not knowing much about guns it was awesome it ran through slugs, and buckshot like no ones business. And maybe had a couple malfunctions through id say 500 rounds or so. But it wouldnt cycle birdshot. Of course i thought it was just new and stiff so give it some time to loosen up the springs and it would work. Fast forward to now and probably 1k rounds, still doesnt cycle it. Moral of the story, its and ok gun. But i always find behing my buddys mossberg 930 tactical because i still have all my birdshot shells at the end of the day. So my $0.002 id buy the 930

I have a pump escort. It's great. It out-performs my 870 every time, but the action isn't as sweet as my mossberg 500.

After about 500 flawless rounds fired, I upgraded that escort from a range toy to a truck gun I can rely on but won't be heartbroken if it gets beat to crud.

        I say get it.

I've owned the Escort MP TacStock 2 20g for 2 yrs now about 280 some rounds through it , caught on sale at Big5. It runs and runs well imho. Just plink with it and possible backup HD with my CZ75. Heard usual rumors when I bought it (buy American yada yada) but it hits where it aims.

ETA: At the start I had 2 rounds hang up in the first 20 and nothing ever again. Haven't used bird shot yet.

You are getting what you are paying for.
Junk is junk. Use your money towards better gun.
None of the users posted here used this gun over 2K rounds, you know why? I had an ATI semi, same junk made i guess on the same factory. It started malfunction after 200 rounds, after 500 it was giving problems constantly,( by this time i already twice changed the trigger group and ones bolt carrier), close to 1000 or a little more all major parts has significant wear then the bolt broke into two parts, i never saw such thing how can a solid piece of metal brake from walmart target ammo. Good it was less than a year, i could return it to the manufacturer for full refund including taxes and dros.

            ....

I bought my son a Stoeger Condor Supreme O/U 20 gauge. He has maybe 1500 rounds through it and has not had one FTF or FTE. He has broken a lot of clay with it and has taken turkey, pheasant, and quail. That gun is a shooter and does better than guns costing 2x more.

I don't know escort, but the Stoeger was made in Turkey so Turkish built guns can and do perform well if they are branded by a reputable manufacturer.

A friend asked me about a mossberg over under shotgun as he was debating buying a used model for cheap...

I was not aware that mossberg had an O/U so I googled it...
                Turkish made
                Nice guns
Not 100% modern with the internals. Should parts break, many times the replacement parts need to be hand fitted to work. No transferable warranty.

Many complaints of guns sent in for warranty work and the gun would be at mossberg for a long/ unacceptable time as they needed to get parts

This holds true for a lot of foreign guns-

You can get a great gun or a gun that might need to be retired should it break
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Anyone else have trouble cycling low power bird loads through their semi auto shotguns? What type of bird loads were you having trouble with?

No experience with escort shotguns. Not sure of price but my guess is they are in the $400-500 range? I’d save up for a Beretta a300.

My buddy bought one from Turner's. Semi auto blue with a wood stock.

The first couple of hundred rounds were tough. We had to take the barrel off a dozen times to hammer out the empties.

Now it cycles fine, but the break-in was painful.

Now my Beretta A300 has run smoothly from day one

My Mossberg JM Pro 24" has been a great gun for me. Over 2000 rounds with only a few easily fixed issues. Feeds everything from low-power Birdshot to Slugs with no issues.
