Whats a good 410 for kids?

I have a grandson who visits on occasion.
He loves shooting 22 pistols and rifles.
I was thinking about letting him try some clays.
He's only 8 y/o. Do you guys think it's a bit too early?
If not, any 410's you guys would recommend?
Money is not too much of an issue but obviously, he's gonna outgrow it so i'm thinking under $500

None. A .410 is a gun for experts, not for beginners.

Disagree. To the OP. If your kid has the patience to learn, he will do well with it and it won't hurt his shoulder. It's true he won't hit targets as easy, but as long as he understands that, it shouldn't frustrate him, however you only know that as his father.

Yup. .410's require the best aim due to the small shot pattern.

A soft shooting 20g semi auto with those light loads that come in the pink boxes. Stick a mercury recoil reducer in the stock if needed. You can't really use gun weight to reduce recoil because the kids will have difficulty wielding the gun.

My bad. Same point applies though.

.410's are specialty guns. Get the youngster a 20 and start there.

I've taught many kids to shoot. The younger ones even find 20 ga. recoils a lot. I have an old single shot .410 bolt action they have all liked. But i start them off just plinking stationary targets with it. Shooting clays would be frustrating for them as it's hard to hit anything moving with it.

My experience is 12 is a good age to have them using 20 ga. shooting clays after they have a little more shooting experience.

                    Get him a 20 g

My kid won a competition at 9 blasting away with a borrowed 20G...I think the size of the kid matters as well as aptitude and ability to focus.

The last .410 I shot beat the hell out of me ( light weight and increased kick) ...worse than my 12G...

Good luck OP...maybe take him to a place that rents various gauges and try them...
Wilson Protector .45, Springer 9mm Loaded, Franchi Instinct SL .12ga. and some other cool stuff for the kiddos...

I started dove hunting with a .410 single shot at 14. Yes, I had to let the birds come in closer and yes, I had to be darn perfect. But oh what a glorious thing it was to down a bird.

                        Do it.

                          Limbsaver recoil pads work well.

My wife shoots a Remington 1100 20ga youth model. It's so soft it has "negative recoil"

Hand (wand or Trius trap) thrown clays or trap/skeet/sporting range. It makes a difference.
