Looking for the best semi auto 12ga need advise

I have recently shot a Benelli ethos 12 gauge with a 28-inch barrel. It was literally one of the nicest shooting shotguns I've ever fired. Not sure I want to spend $2,000 on the shotgun at this time but I'm looking for a gun close to that quality but not quite that expensive, is there anything out there. I already have a shotgun for waterfowl this one will be used for Upland game and trap shooting. Any recommendations would be appreciated thank you.

    Why semi auto for trap?

The Beretta A300 might work for your needs

Semi autos can be a pain if you don’t fit the gun... the length of pull can really be limited by recoil systems in the stock

The Mossberg 930 and Benelli m1/m2 really cannot be shortened...

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

For me an Upland shotgun and Trap shotgun are two very different animals.

IMO an M2 will shoot about as nice as the ethos based on my own experience. I have shot both and own an M2, Sport 2, SBE 2, but I don't own an Ethos. That is actually next on my list. I doubt you will find anything else with the same exact feeling AND LOOKS for much less money. If looks aren't that important to you, get an M2.

In my experience you are getting what you are paying for.
I had one, also was surprised by the quality until i put about 2-300 rounds then it disintegrated completely.

Benelli montefeltro is a nice gun for upland game. How about a 20 gauge?

I like my camo a300 - does it all.

Need feedback on the 20 ga Montefeltro---I'm thinking of buying and any info of the gun appreciated-----Thanks----George@SJB

Skip the sx4, get a 3. Some still made in Belgium.

Wasn't designed for hunting, but my 24" barrel Beretta 1301 Comp is great for upland game. Having to reload constantly with the three round restriction is also a breeze. Mine was just under $1k and is a great all around/multi purpose semi auto.

I was looking a the Beretta A400 but still think the Ethos is nicer. Looks like I am just gonna have to pony up the money.

Benelli A400? Are you sure it's not a Beretta A400?
Yes, quality shotguns cost $$$. Buy once, cry once...

Nah, but once cry once isn't a thing with shotguns.

I can shoot trap just as well with my $600 Mossberg 930 as my friend does with his Beretta A400. And both of us are doing about as well as the retired guy with his alphabet soup break action with walnut burl stock next to us.

What you pay for with more expensive sporting shotguns is better fit and finish, and a marginally more pleasurable shooting experience. And more power to ya if you got the money to spend. I'll have a $5K over-under someday too I'm sure.

Optics on rifles, now THAT is buy once cry once territory.

Not entirely true, it all depends on usage and expectations.
When I started I bought a $700 CZ, brand new. It worked and told me what I needed to know, I needed a better gun. Before I bought the CZ I had my eyes on a Zoli. Well, if I would have just bought the Zoli up front I could have saved several thousand $$$.
It really boils down to usage and expectations. If you plan to shoot several thousand rounds a year, buy a quality gun up front... it will save you $$$ in the long run.
If you plan for 100 shells every couple months, it's not much of an issue.

I know less people with 1 shotgun than people with mulitples. Shooting shotgun is much more enjoyable to me than blasting hundreds of rounds at static targets. Something about breaking a moving target that keeps you wanting to buy more guns to break more targets.

Anyway, i'm partial to Benellis, I have 6. A M1 field is my all time favorite. Built like a tank. M2 is going to serve you well but there are manufuacturing improvements (cost cutting) features that makes them less desirable to me. M2 parts will fit an M1 chassis but not the other way around.

I don't like gas operated semi, they have a funny zing sound and the gas port needs more maintenance.

Good luck, for shotguns cant' beat the Eye Ta Lian.
