Range near Tracy to shoot buckshot

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this.

I have an 835 ultimag that I've converted to HD ( I still have the 28" barrel for trap or sporting clays). I replaced the stock furniture with magpul and put an 18.5" barrel on. The problem was I need to use an aftermarket action tube for it to work with the magpul forend.

The only option I was able to find was pro mag(horrible product). The threads on the end of tube and castle nut were very shallow, and the castle nut would pop off after a few rounds on 2-3/4 target loads.

My last attempt to make the shotgun work before I went back to the OEM parts was to JB weld the castle nut to the action tube. It seems like the JB weld did its job but now I want to test with some heavier loads to see if this remedy works.

Are there any ranges near Tracy that allows buckshot? I've only found that most ranges only let you pattern with light bird loads.

Shop shotgun parts (642) at Brownells, perfect for gunsmithing, repairs, and modifications. Explore stocks, barrels, chokes, and more for fixing or upgrading your shotgun.

Hmmm..JB weld and a shotgun. Sounds like the making of a YouTube video. If the magpul forend won’t work with the promag, put that stock one on. Here is an extension for HD.

Had this issue with a Rem 870 supermag. Magpul forend wouldn’t work so I just kept the stock one on there.

I’ve had issues with the castle nut on Rem 870’s. They don’t thread on correctly, get cross threaded or rust. You don’t want to JB weld on there for cleaning purposes. My suggestion would be to put some anti seize grease on the threads. If it doesn’t hold, go back to the stock set up.

    Good luck.

Yeah using JB for a firearm repair is not one of my proudest moments. Chances are I will be going back to the stock setup.

I have a Choate +2 and it sticks out past the barrel. Took it off. 5 +1 in the gun and a velcro shell holder on the side with an extra 6 shells.

I would never call you Bubba, but don't be surprised if someone else here does....

It’s not super close, I know, but I’ve patterned 12ga buckshot at The Gun Room in Elk Grove.

              ><

Get yourself some heavy target loads or hunting loads in 7 1/2 or #8 ...same, if not more, recoil as Buck shot. I don't think you will catch any grief from the range if you are patterning #7 1/2 or #8 shot at the patterning board even if they are on the hot side

I've got some 3" Turkey loads. Those might be the ticket.
