I had the Vang Comp job done on an 18.5" Remington 870 barrel I had. I can't say I shot it very much but I seemed to get a tighter spread than the stock configuration. The idea is basically that you could use cheap ammo and get the same results as Federal Flight Control. You really have to get beyond home defense distances to see the benefit. You are probably better off trying to find a 20" that takes chokes.sigpicComment

Do you mean back boring? I thought forcing cones were on revolvers.
I use Flitecontrol so I doubt it would make much of a difference.Comment

OK guys, obviously none of you have shot a Vang Comped Shotgun.
It is night and day difference.
My M500 with a 20" barrel beat the snot out of me before I had the barrel done.
Now the recoil in strait line which doesn't separate your cheek from the stock, since there is no muzzle rise.
The Recoil impulse is noticeably smoother.
The gun patterns Federal Low Recoil Buck Shot at 4" at 15 yards and 7" at 25 yards.
It patterns Birdshot at 7-8" at 15 yards.
This makes this gun very shootable and it also shoots slugs very well. It is now easily a 100 yard gun with slugs, and 50 yards with buckshot.
The whole process is $255 and that includes lengthening the forcing cone, back boring the barrel to .745 and porting the barrel with 62 1/16" holes.
Hans Vang has been doing this mod to riot guns for 30+ years and he wouldn't have gotten many customers if his process didn't work.
Here's a pic of 3 shots at 50 yards with Fed Slugs. That's a 2-2.5" group! Didn't do that before. The rectangle is 3x4"
It is well worth the money if you are going to actually shoot the gun enough to justify doing it, Like for a 3 gun weapon..
If it is strictly for Home Defense and will never see a whole box of shells ran thru it, you'd better off spending the money on a class to learn how to run the gun.

Vang Comp doesn't happen to guns like that.
