    Speedfeed Shotgun Stocks?

Always wanted to put on my 870 police magnum instead of a slip on one that makes me a little uncomfortable even on the left side of the gun since I'm a lefty. An internet search suggests that they have been long discontinued what a bummer seemed like a great idea. Any one know what happened to them?

Maybe a stickon Velcro Side Saddle on the left side of the receiver would be better option. They are easy to install and it doesn't alter the gun in any way,,, and they alot cheaper too boot.

I think as people trained with Shotguns, they realized the speed feed was a novelty item.

Police could have an NFA length shotgun for the car... so Empty Chamber and 3 in the tube.... the Speed Feed gave you a few more rounds...

        They frequently hiccuped....
        1) The spring tension on the shells can be such that if you are not careful you end up launching the shells out of your fingers when you try to pull one or both out. I've not noticed them coming loose due to recoil, but that probably varies from user to user. Even shells in side saddles can work their way loose sometimes.

        2) The internals of the SpeedFeed require the stock recoil/butt pad to retain the internal springs, thus, you cannot simply remove the stock recoil pad and use a quick slip-on solution... you must use a bolt-on/fit recoil pad if you choose to change it out.

        Lastly is Cost-
Shotguns are cheap... a Mossberg 500 was $300 for a long time.... the stock was 1/3 the price of the gun....
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Hermosabeach covered it very well but I will add to it. The early ones had a major issue with shells popping out due to shell surge however the latter models had a higher ledge so that issue was resolved but sometimes would still occur. The early models had a pad that would get pushed away from the stock by the magazine sprigs if stored in a hot are like the truck of a Police car. They came up with a recoil pad with a heavy polymer plate to resolve that. LOP was 14 which is a little long for a person wearing body Amor.

You can not shoot them left handed as the cut out for the magazine would rip your cheek open so this was not even an option for the OP.

If you haven't already I would really encourage you to handle a shotgun with one installed first. I thought these were the coolest thing until I actually bought one and hated it. Big/bulky/heavy and throws too much weight out by the muzzle. If you tighten down the forend nut too much the soft polymer will warp inward and grab onto the magazine tube and your gun wont cycle. I personally like a CDM gear mount with your favorite hand held light as a much lighter and more streamlined option. Just my $.02

I recently bought a Mossberg 590A1 with a Speedfeed stock. On its first range visit I was eager to see how well the SF worked. I am left handed and the position of the SF opening did not interfere with my cheek weld.

Anyway, I fired at least 4 boxes of shells throughout the day. Some was birdshot and also quite a bit of Fiocchi buckshot and some Federal low recoil buckshot. The shells in the SF never popped out or moved at all.

This is of course not a definitive scientific test, but I felt the device performed well. If there was any gripe I'd say the shells were a little tricky to remove from the SF while maintaining a shouldered weapon eyes on target reload. But then, if they were easier to remove deliberately, they might be more prone to pop out under recoil.

I have a 870 Police magnum I bought in 1992 I'm sure in came with a speed feed stock installed. I haven't shot it in many years but don't recall shells popping out of the holders.
