Question about slugs

Hi all, first time poster,

I recently bought my first shotgun, and purchased a Remington 870 tactical. I have a friend send me some extra slugs that he got a hold of and was wondering if they are OK to shoot out of the model shotgun I have.

The slugs are the remington premier accutip 385 grain "bonded sabot slugs". Not sure if they are for rifeled shotguns only, or if they would work fine with my 870 tactical. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

i've always debated whether or not to shoot those slugs that say you need a rifled barrel, but to my understanding, they will shoot, but the accuracy will be horrible. not entirely sure though.

Not true hunters were using slugs in smooth bore shotgun barrels long before most of you were born,btw there were no rifled shotgun barrels in the 1940's & 1950's.In parts of the northeast where I'm from originally certain counties required slug use. I purchased an Ithaca 16g featherweight pump shotgun in 1957 with a modified choked barrel which I used to shoot slugs.The hunters in NYS using smooth bores and lead slugs took a lot of whitetails and black bear but in that era we had crack shots who made every round count and lots of hunters had combat experience with all sorts of weapons against targets that shot back.

SCR is may be correct about not having rifled barrels however they also didnt have slugs with sabots either. you can shoot them but you accuracy will suffer greatly. it would be better to shoot rifled slugs.

Rifled slugs for smooth bores and sabot for rifled barrels. Will it shoot out of the 870? Yes. Will it hit something? Yes, but might not be your target.

There's a significant price difference between sabot and rifled slugs. You could always sell the sabots and buy 2-3 times the quantity in rifled slugs.

Yea, rifled slugs are what you use in smooth bore shotguns. That'll give the slug the rotation it needs to remain stable in the air.

Sabot slugs will run through a smooth bore, but without the rotation, the sabot won't separate properly (which is iffy as it is...) and the slug will become unstable in flight.

So, anyone interested in 25 accutip slugs? im in SD!
