    Shotgun fitting

Anybody know where I can get properly fitted for a shotgun (preferably close to Ventura county)? Or how easy is it to do at home? And what does something like this cost?

Not knowing your experience with SG shooting I'll suggest the following...it may apply or it may be redundant

Sign up for the SoCal Skeet Clinic @ Trple B

They will do a basic gun fit for you and educate you on gun fit...there is a lot of tuning you can do on your own.

A formal gun fitting runs in the 4-600.00 range and you can call your local clay ranges to get some names of fitters . However if you don't have a constant gun mount and stance....its a waste of money

Yep, what he said. Learn how to properly mount a shotgun BEFORE you start thinking about fit.

Does the gun mounting change with various sports? I've got a pretty consistent mount with trap, but the wife and I are planning to start sporting clays soon. Will that change given the presentation of the clays?

The inconvenience of poor quality lingers long after the thrill of a good bargain.

Has someone that knows what they're doing looked at your stance / mount and said you're doing it correctly?

Trap has one target presentation, going away. Sporting Clays is limitless.

Most people shoot sporting clays with a soft mount. Gun in the shoulder, head up to see the clay.

Don't get me started on FITASC

The mount is the same, the gun hold is different. You need to off your gun for sporting clays so you can see the bird earlier. Check out Moore n Moore Bonanza shoot this Sunday. You get 100 clays and lunch for around $40. Cheaper than shooting during practice. I think they have the best sporting clay setup too. Talk to Cory Moore and ask him for the Jay Krug deal on Sunday.

In Trap targets are going away but at a unknown angle from left to right. Once set up each station at Sporting Clay's is the same over and over. Last shooter in the group has a really good idea of presentation. Skeet is very strict on target presentation. All are hard to shoot 100 straight at.

How many 100 straights were shot last year in trap and skeet? How many in sporting clays?

                    (Sporting Clays is under 10)

I've got a bit of experience with SG shooting (~5 years) but am far from an expert. I didn't realize how expensive a fitting can run, I'd rather just put that $$ towards my next purchase (probably a Beretta O/U) since I don't plan on doing any competitive shooting and a few missed birds here and there will not sour my fun too much.

I guess the next step will be to have someone who is in the know watch my mount/stance and let me know if there's something I can do there. I shoot ok but I've never had a lesson or anything so I am sure there is room for improvement.
