i see what they were trying to do make something light and comparable to an over under

not sure why he chose to load it that way i would drop one in the chamber through the ejection then put one in the lower feeder

I like aluminum receiver x steel barrel shotguns. Aluminum barrel would have crappy balance. Maybe a survival type design, but not for wingshooting.

There's plenty of aluminium receiver shotguns millions of Mossberg 500's and Winchester 1200/1300 pattern shotguns have been made. I have only run across those AR17 shotguns 2-3x in my life.
