What question do you want answered? Your thread is titled best 20 gauge and your text ask for best 12 gauge.

The answer for both is Benelli M2.

Simple solution - just throw $ 1,500.00 on the counter and your good to go !

Best bang for the buck and has quite a good reputation is the Mossberg SA 20. However your post and title don't match and the best answer to both was the Benelli.

Probably the one question I have been asked more than any other has to do with what design and gauge of shotgun I would recommend when trying to get someone sta

Meant 12 gauge, but guess I was tired or in a hurry.
The 930JM Pro was a great starter 3 gun that was affordable. But I have heard rumors that Franchi is the new kid on the block for a while now. EDIT: The only issue if you want to call it that is Franchi doesn't make anything in the affinity line under a 26" barrel.

Yes the inertia driven actions are where its at. Look for one of those if you want to have some fun with little maintenance.

                  M2 is proven.
Versamax is a copy of Benellis ARGO system in the M4. I like it, softer recoiling.

A little late to the party. LOL. And the Mossberg isn't semiauto.

Taran Tactical Benelli M2. They run and run and run. Inertia driven means it runs clean. The last time I shot 3 gun Nationals, I shot at least one 3 gun match a month and some trap. I never did a full disassemble clean until right before Nationals and the gun was pretty clean inside.

It's cheaper to buy the right gun first than to buy a cheaper gun, have a bunch of headaches with it and then buy the better gun later.
